About the Role
As a Motor Mechanic (General), you will maintain, test and repair petrol engines and the mechanical parts of lightweight motor vehicles including transmissions, suspension, steering, and brakes. You will work across the full range of our automotive services, bringing your diagnostic skill and trade expertise to every job.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
In accordance with ANZSCO 321211 Motor Mechanic (General), your duties will include:
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and parts
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, referring to service manuals as needed
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations
- Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair for proper performance
- Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers and diagnostic equipment
- Inspecting vehicles and issuing Roadworthy Certificates (RWC) or detailing work required to achieve roadworthiness
- Registration or licensing may be required
Requirements
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620) including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
- Proven hands-on experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic (General)
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle makes and models
- Competency in using computerised diagnostic tools and equipment
- Current Victorian driver's licence — mandatory
- Authorised Vehicle Examiner (AVE) licence for RWC inspections — highly regarded
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications
