RETAIL MANAGER — FULL TIME (PERMANENT)

Employer: KAAR VENTURES PTY LTD trading as IGA Eatons Hill
Location: 1 Queen Elizabeth Dr, Eatons Hill QLD 4037
Employment type: Full-time, permanent (38 hours per week minimum)
Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience

About us
IGA Eatons Hill is a locally owned full-service supermarket providing groceries, fresh produce, dairy, meat, household goods and everyday essentials to the Eatons Hill community. We are seeking an experienced Retail Manager to take overall responsibility for the operation and commercial performance of the store.

About the role
Reporting to the business owner, the Retail Manager will organise and control the operations of the supermarket, with full accountability for its trading performance, staffing, stock and compliance.

Key responsibilities

Determine product mix, stock levels and service standards — decide the range of grocery, fresh produce, dairy, meat, deli and household product lines carried by the store; set minimum and maximum stock holdings for each department; establish and monitor service standards across checkout, deli and customer service areas; and review ranging decisions based on sales performance, seasonality and local customer demand.

Formulate and implement purchasing and marketing policies, and set prices — develop the store's purchasing policies including approved supplier lists, order frequencies and stock replenishment procedures; negotiate trading terms, pricing and rebates with wholesalers, distributors and local suppliers; set and adjust retail prices and margins across all departments in response to cost movements, competitor activity and IGA catalogue programs; and implement markdown and clearance policies to manage shrinkage and waste.

Promote and advertise the establishment's goods and services — plan and execute the store's promotional calendar, including weekly catalogue promotions, in-store specials, seasonal campaigns and community sponsorship activity; direct merchandising, planogram compliance, ticketing and in-store displays; and manage the store's local advertising and social media presence to drive foot traffic and sales.

Sell goods and services to customers and advise them on product use — maintain a hands-on floor presence, assisting customers with product selection, availability, dietary and product-use enquiries; handle special orders; and model the standard of customer engagement expected of all staff.

Maintain records of stock levels and financial transactions — oversee stocktakes, inventory counts and shrinkage investigations; maintain accurate records of stock on hand, wastage, invoicing and goods received; and manage daily register reconciliation, cash handling, banking and end-of-day financial records.

Undertake budgeting for the establishment — prepare the store's annual and periodic sales, wage, stock purchase and expense budgets; monitor actual performance against budget, including gross margin, wage-to-sales ratios and departmental profitability; and report results and corrective actions to the business owner.

Control the selection, training and supervision of staff — recruit and select store staff; induct and train employees in store procedures, customer service, food handling and register operation; prepare rosters within wage budgets; supervise, coach and performance-manage staff across all shifts; and coordinate leave and staffing coverage for a 7-day trading operation.

Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations — implement and enforce workplace health and safety and food safety procedures, including cold chain management, temperature logging, safe manual handling, cleaning schedules and incident reporting; conduct regular safety inspections; and ensure the store meets all council, food licensing and regulatory requirements.

Skills and experience required

A relevant qualification in business, retail or management, OR at least 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a formal qualification

At least 1 year experience in a retail management role with responsibility for the overall operation of a store, preferably in a supermarket or retail environment

Demonstrated experience in staff management, rostering, stock control, supplier negotiation and budgeting

Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety and food safety requirements

Strong leadership, organisational, communication and customer service skills
