As we continue to grow, we are looking for a passionate and skilled Cook to join our kitchen team.
About the Role
As a Cook at Mr. Macedon, you will prepare, season, and cook a wide range of fresh food in our busy café and restaurant kitchen. You will play a key role in maintaining the high food quality standards and warm dining experience our guests love, working across our breakfast and lunch service with a focus on freshness, presentation, and dietary inclusivity.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Examining foodstuffs to ensure quality prior to preparation and cooking
- Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment
- Preparing and cooking food across a range of methods including baking, braising, frying, roasting, and steaming
- Seasoning food during cooking
- Portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces, and garnishes to ensure meals are well presented
- Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities in accordance with food safety standards
- Preparing food to meet special dietary requirements including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free needs
- Cleaning food preparation areas and equipment to maintain a hygienic and functional kitchen
- Receiving and storing supplies as required
- Planning menus and estimating food requirements in consultation with management as required
- Training and supervising other kitchen staff as required
Requirements
- AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
- Proven experience of 1 year as a Cook in a café, restaurant, or catering establishment
- Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and kitchen compliance (Food Handler Certificate preferred)
- Ability to prepare dishes to meet a range of dietary needs including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to fresh, quality food presentation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications
