Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do
This is an opportunity to play a hands‑on, influential role at the heart of the Ministry’s stewardship of Crown entities and system performance. As Senior Advisor, System and Entity Monitoring, you’ll lead defined entity portfolios and system monitoring workstreams, applying sound judgement to identify emerging risks, test complex issues and deliver clear, defensible advice to senior leaders and Ministers. Working with a high degree of autonomy, your analysis and advice will help ensure decision-makers have a clear view of organisational performance, emerging risks and opportunities for improvement.
You will
Own Crown entity and system monitoring workstreams by leading monitoring for assigned entities and priority system areas, maintaining a current, evidence‑based view of performance, governance, risks and trajectory.
Apply robust monitoring judgement by analysing performance information, governance material and intelligence to determine what matters, why it matters, and what is likely to happen next.
Deliver decision‑ready monitoring advice through high‑quality briefings, dashboards and recommendations that clearly distinguish between fact, judgement and risk, and explain confidence and uncertainty.
Support deep dives and escalated monitoring by contributing substantive analysis, shaping lines of inquiry, testing evidence and translating assurance findings into practical monitoring insights and escalation advice.
Strengthen monitoring practice and capability by engaging constructively with Crown entities, supporting “no surprises” monitoring, mentoring Advisors, contributing to continuous improvement, and embedding equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations in all work.
Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring
Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in health, monitoring, governance, regulation, risk, performance or a similarly complex public‑sector environment.
Strong capability in risk‑based monitoring and analysis, with sound judgement to distinguish signal from noise and recommend proportionate next steps.
Proven ability to deliver high‑quality, decision‑ready advice, presenting clear options, implications and recommendations for senior audiences.
Well‑developed analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, supporting effective collaboration across diverse partners.
Commitment to lifting monitoring capability through mentoring and guidance, with a strong commitment to cultural competence and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
