Your Role

As the Engineering Manager you will play a key role in the Engineering Team, providing day-to-day leadership of Engineering team members, driving delivery from squads, career development and hiring activities. The Engineering Manager works alongside Product Managers and Tech Leads to ensure work is planned accurately and delivered efficiently. You will also be able to undertake technical tasks to assist squads and support the improvement of engineering team processes and practices.

This role could be based in our Napier office alongside many of our engineering team members, or remotely in another city in New Zealand.

Your Responsibilities

  • Hold regular one-on-ones with Software/QA Engineers.
  • Provide career pathway development and goal setting for Software/QA Engineers along with mentoring and upskilling.
  • Intimately understand agile methodologies and coach squads through these.
  • Interview, test, and hire new team members capable of delivering.
  • Suggest, lead and implement department level initiatives to change or improve processes to improve efficiency.
  • Coordinate with Product Managers and Tech Leads to plan and ensure work is delivered.
  • Where work spans multiple squads, manage dependencies and ensure any roadblocks are overcome.
  • Work with Squad Leads and Principal Engineers to develop training material for Software Engineers.

Your Experience

  • At least 8 years software development experience.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Experience managing and mentoring multiple engineering team members.
  • Experience working in a lean, agile environment.
  • Experience with a range of development tools and architectural patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing opportunities to improve quality.

Our culture is very important to us too, and we strongly believe in living out our core values:

  • People First: One team globally; our people and customers always come first.
  • Find a Way: Like a river, we find a way around all obstacles
  • Win or Learn: Our journey for improvement never ends; enjoy the ride!
  • Aim High: We dare to set big goals and love the challenge of achieving them against the odds.

Why you’ll love working here!

Taking care of you: Including comprehensive health insurance, access to a premium EAP service and an annual wellness allowance to spend on what helps you feel good - whether that’s towards a gym membership, new running shoes, or mindfulness apps.

Support for families: Generous paid parental leave and flexible, family-friendly support designed to help growing families balance work and life with confidence.

Recognition for tenure and milestones: We celebrate time, commitment, and contribution with milestone rewards and additional leave as you grow your career with us.

Flexible working, built for a global team: With customers and teammates across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and North America, we work in a hybrid, remote-friendly way with collaborative offices and the flexibility of a balanced approach to WFH/i-office work.
