About the Position
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and experienced Disability Support Worker to join our team on a full-time basis.
The successful applicant will provide high-quality, individualised support to participants in their homes, Supported Independent Living houses and community settings. This position requires a person who is committed to protecting each participant’s dignity, privacy, safety and independence while providing support in accordance with individual support plans and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support to allocated clients in line with their individual support plan and personal goals, including assistance with personal care, mobility, domestic tasks and community access as required.
- Support clients to build and maintain independence, skills and community connections, respecting their right to make their own choices.
- Prepare, cook and serve meals for clients in accordance with their individual preferences, dietary needs and support plans.
- Plan, organise and assist clients to participate in suitable social, recreational and community-based activities that promote engagement and wellbeing
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, cleaning, laundry and maintaining a safe, tidy and comfortable living environment for clients.
- Support clients with personal hygiene and grooming tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing and other personal care needs while maintaining dignity and privacy.
- Provide companionship, friendship, emotional reassurance and ongoing social support to help reduce isolation and improve clients’ overall wellbeing
- Where the role requires, reside in the SIL houses to provide ongoing assistance, supervision and support with daily living activities.
- Assist clients with shopping, attending appointments and completing personal or household errands whenever required.
- Treat all clients with dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity, upholding their privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Identify and immediately report any concerning behaviours, statements, or changes in a client's mood, health or wellbeing to Aussie Life Care's administrative staff and the client's Support Coordinator.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 1-year previous experience in disability support, aged care, or similar role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a caring attitude.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Good documentation and time-management skills.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, or equivalent preferred.
- Current First Aid and CPR.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working With Children Check, if required.
- Australian driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle preferred.
