Reporter (Part-Time)The Coast News is seeking an ambitious reporter to join our newsroom covering North County San Diego. We're looking for a curious journalist who enjoys asking questions, uncovering important stories and making a difference through local reporting.This position covers a wide range of beats, including city government, education, public safety, courts, business, community events and human-interest features. Every week brings new opportunities to break news, develop enterprise stories and tell the stories that matter most to our communities.What You'll DoCover city council, school board and other public meetingsDevelop original news, enterprise and feature storiesReport breaking news with accuracy and urgencyConduct interviews and build relationships with local sourcesTake compelling photos, write accurate captions and capture occasional short-form video from the fieldProduce clean, AP-style copy on deadlineHelp share and promote original reporting across our website and social media platformsYou'll report stories that appear in our weekly newspaper, website and social media channels, helping deliver trusted local journalism wherever our readers are.What We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field preferredProfessional newsroom experience is preferred, but we're happy to hear from early-career journalists and talented writers with strong reporting skillsExcellent writing, interviewing and research abilitiesStrong news judgment and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlinesPhotography experience is a plusExperience creating short-form video for social media is a plusFamiliarity with AP style, WordPress and digital publishing is a plusPosition DetailsThis position is available as part-time.Part-time: Approximately 20–30 hours per week (flexible based on coverage needs)Compensation: Competitive and based on experience.Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave and other company benefits.
