Ascot Catering is seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our growing hospitality business based at the prestigious Albert Park Yachting & Angling Club.
Working alongside the Executive Chef and business owner, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of a busy waterfront kitchen, delivering high-quality bistro dining, weddings, corporate functions, private events and seasonal menu offerings.
This is a permanent, full-time position, offering long-term career opportunities within a rapidly expanding catering and hospitality company.
About the Role
As Sous Chef you will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of kitchen operations including:
- Assisting with the preparation and service of lunch, dinner and function menus.
- Supervising kitchen staff during service.
- Ensuring consistent food quality, presentation and portion control.
- Assisting with menu development and seasonal menu planning.
- Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with Australian regulations.
- Ordering stock and monitoring inventory levels.
- Reducing food waste and assisting with food cost control.
- Training, mentoring and developing junior kitchen staff.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient kitchen.
- Working collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
About You
To be successful you will have:
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in a commercial kitchen.
- Previous experience in high-volume bistro, restaurant or function environments.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
