Description

Designer Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Contracts Manager to support the continued growth of our data centre business across Europe.

This is a senior operational role focused on the delivery of complex, fast-moving live data centre projects. The successful candidate will take ownership of multiple electrical packages or projects running concurrently, providing clear leadership to site teams and ensuring delivery is safe, controlled, commercially managed and aligned with client expectations.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Planning, Commercial, Procurement, QA/QC and EHS teams to ensure projects are delivered on programme, within budget and to the highest technical and quality standards.

This role would suit an experienced electrical delivery leader who understands the demands of live data centre environments, can manage multiple stakeholders, and is comfortable operating across European projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of electrical contracts across live data centre projects in Europe.
  • Provide operational leadership to project teams, including Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, Quantity Surveyors and subcontractor teams.
  • Take overall responsibility for project delivery, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Manage project performance against programme, cost, quality, safety and client expectations.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to ensure strong commercial control, accurate forecasting, change management, cost reporting and margin protection.
  • Oversee procurement planning, subcontractor engagement, specialist packages, plant, equipment and material requirements.
  • Ensure subcontractors and specialist contractors are properly managed, coordinated and held accountable against scope, programme, quality and safety requirements.
  • Support design development, technical reviews, buildability assessments and value engineering before and during project delivery.
  • Review project progress, identify critical risks and ensure corrective actions are taken early.
  • Ensure weekly reporting is completed, including progress updates, programme status, RFIs, procurement schedules, technical submittals, commercial issues and key risks.
  • Chair and attend regular project meetings with internal teams, design teams, subcontractors, consultants and client representatives.
  • Ensure effective labour planning, productivity tracking and resource management across the projects under your control.
  • Drive high standards of health, safety, quality and compliance across all project activity.
  • Work closely with EHS and QA/QC teams to ensure Designer Group standards are consistently implemented on site.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Support business development activity where required by identifying future opportunities and strengthening client relationships.
  • Represent Designer Group professionally across European projects and contribute to the continued growth of the data centre business.
  • Strong electrical background with significant experience delivering large-scale M&E or electrical projects.
  • Experience working on data centre projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working on live data centre environments would be a distinct advantage.
  • Previous experience in a Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Director, Operations Manager or similar senior delivery role.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, packages or workstreams concurrently.
  • Strong understanding of electrical building services, project delivery, commissioning, sequencing and site coordination.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors, specialist contractors, site teams and multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to work closely with QS and commercial teams on cost control, variations, forecasting and contract performance.
  • Good understanding of procurement, design coordination, technical submittals, RFIs, programme management and project reporting.
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to set direction, hold teams accountable and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, client-facing environment where safety, quality and programme certainty are critical.
  • Willingness to travel across European project locations as required.
  • Third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is desirable but not essential where strong relevant experience can be demonstrated.

preferred experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in electrical contracting, M&E contracting or building services delivery.
  • Experience delivering hyperscale, colocation or mission-critical data centre projects.
  • Experience working across European project locations.
  • Experience managing live-site works, phased delivery, change control, commissioning activity and client-critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical containment, LV/MV systems, power distribution, switchgear, UPS, generators, life safety systems, BMS interfaces, commissioning and handover processes.
  • Competitive salary package.
  • Performance-related bonus.
  • Pension contribution.
  • Health cover.
  • Company vehicle or car allowance, role dependent.
  • Travel, accommodation and project-related supports where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work on major European data centre projects with a growing international M&E contractor.
  • Long-term career development within a business with a strong pipeline of work across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
