Human Resources Manager
At Queensland Music Festival (QMF), people are at the heart of everything we do.
For more than 20 years, we’ve connected communities through music, culture and creativity, delivering festivals, regional music trails and cultural experiences across Queensland.
Behind every event is a passionate team working together to create meaningful experiences for artists, audiences, stakeholders and communities.
If you’re looking for more than business-as-usual HR, this is an opportunity to apply your skills in an organisation where great HR makes a genuine difference to people every day.
About the Opportunity (Fixed-term 2 years, Full-time)Reporting directly to the CEO, this is an autonomous, standalone Human Resources Manager role within a lean and collaborative organisation.
You’ll lead the day-to-day delivery of Human Resources while partnering closely with the staff to provide practical advice, strengthen organisational capability and support positive people outcomes.
This is a predominantly hands-on role, balancing operational HR with meaningful initiatives. You’ll work across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, HR systems, employment compliance, workplace advice and WHS.
You’ll also play an important role in embedding our recently developed Strategic Workforce Plan and supporting initiatives that strengthen the employee experience and organisational capability.
This isn’t a role where you build HR from scratch. The strong foundations are already in place. We’re looking for someone who can build on that great work by bringing fresh ideas, embedding new initiatives and identifying practical opportunities to improve the way we support our people and leaders.
QMF operates differently from many organisations. Our workforce expands and contracts throughout the year as projects and events move through planning and delivery. Priorities shift, teams evolve and no two weeks look the same.
Success in this role comes from combining strong HR practice with adaptability, sound judgement and practical problem-solving.
About YouYou are a HR Business Partner or a Human Resources Manager who enjoys working close to the business and values variety, autonomy and collaboration.
You’ll bring strong HR foundations, sound professional judgement and the confidence to operate independently across a broad generalist portfolio.
You’ll be comfortable providing practical advice and managing a broad range of HR matters, including employee relations, performance management, Modern Award interpretation, employment contracts, organisational change, recruitment and employment compliance. You’ll also support a dynamic workforce that includes permanent and fixed-term employees, casuals, contractors and volunteers.
You’ll also hold tertiary qualifications in Human Resources (or a related discipline), providing the professional foundation to confidently support both routine and complex people matters.
Just as importantly, you bring positive energy to your work. You enjoy connecting with people, building strong relationships across all levels of the organisation and creating a workplace where people feel supported, valued and empowered to do their best work.
What success looks like- Leaders trust your advice and proactively seek your support to navigate both routine and complex matters.

- You embrace the unique nature of QMF, adapting to changing priorities and finding opportunities to make a positive impact on individuals, teams and the organisation.
- Be part of a purpose-driven organisation connecting communities through music, culture and creativity.
- Enjoy the autonomy to lead the HR function while working within a collaborative and supportive team.
- Broaden your HR capability across both operational and strategic work while further developing your confidence as a standalone HR practitioner.
