Travel Security Manager - APAC
About the Team
The Corporate Security team supports the safety, security, and resilience of OpenAI employees globally. The Travel Security function helps employees travel safely and confidently while enabling business activity in a complex and fast-changing operating environment.
About the Role
As Travel Security Manager, APAC, you will own the regional delivery and continued development of OpenAI's travel security program across Asia-Pacific. You will support the full travel risk management lifecycle, from pre-travel assessment and preparation through active-trip monitoring, incident response, traveler accountability, and post-incident learning.
Reporting to the Global Travel Security Manager, you will be the regional lead for travel security matters across APAC. You will work closely with Corporate Security, Protective Intelligence, Finance, People, Legal, Immigration, Global Mobility, Communications, Information Security, and external providers.
This is a hands-on role for a seasoned travel security professional. You will independently manage complex cases, advise leaders on risk-based travel decisions, support travelers during incidents and crises, and build scalable regional processes. Broad APAC experience is important, and deeper operating experience in East Asia is particularly valuable.
Travel across APAC and occasionally to other regions is expected to comprise approximately 25% of the role.
In this role, you will:
Own day-to-day travel security operations across APAC, including high-risk travel reviews, traveler briefings, monitoring, escalation, incident response, and traveler accountability.
Produce clear, intelligence-led risk assessments, advisories, decision briefs, and practical mitigation options for employees and senior stakeholders.
Work with intelligence analysts and external providers to monitor geopolitical, security, health, environmental, and transport risks and turn changing information into timely operational decisions.
Lead the travel security response to medical emergencies, security incidents, natural disasters, civil unrest, airspace or transport disruption, and other events affecting travelers.
Maintain regional procedures, playbooks, decision triggers, communications, training, exercises, and after-action reviews.
Support company events, strategic meetings, executive travel, and other business activity requiring coordinated travel security planning.
Manage travel risk, medical and security assistance, intelligence, secure transport, and other specialist providers, including service quality, escalation paths, and performance reviews.
Use travel management, traveler tracking, mass communication, intelligence, and case-management tools effectively, with close attention to booking-data quality, privacy, access, and operational resilience.
Partner with travelers and business teams to deliver proportionate security measures that are clear, practical, and sensitive to the traveler experience.
Use metrics, operational reviews, automation, and carefully governed AI tools to improve service quality, consistency, speed, and scale.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
8+ years of directly relevant experience in corporate travel security or travel risk management, including recent ownership of a regional or global program. This role requires depth in travel security experience.
Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of travel security operations, including risk assessment, pre-travel preparation, high-risk travel, active-trip monitoring, traveler tracking, emergency assistance, incident response, and crisis support.
Substantial operating experience across multiple APAC subregions and the judgment to adapt global standards to different legal, cultural, infrastructure, and risk environments.
Proven experience leading significant traveler incidents and supporting complex, fast-moving crises involving incomplete information and multiple stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and experience translating intelligence into clear recommendations, decision points, traveler communications, and operational actions.
Hands-on experience with travel management data, traveler tracking or mass communication platforms, medical and security assistance services, intelligence tools, and related workflows.
Experience managing external providers and working effectively across global, cross-functional, and geographically distributed teams.
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to brief senior leaders and communicate calmly and clearly with travelers under pressure.
Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate independently while knowing when and how to escalate.
Nice to have:
Deeper operating experience in East Asia, or professional capability in an additional APAC language.
Experience applying ISO 31030 or a comparable travel risk management framework.
Practical experience using data, workflow automation, or AI-assisted tools to improve travel security operations, with appropriate validation and human oversight.
Workplace & Location
This role is based in Singapore. Regional and international travel is required and is expected to comprise approximately 25% of the role.
