Refrigeration Technician
Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from a Refrigeration Technician to join the maintenance team at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This is a rare opportunity to work in one of the world's most remote and unique environments, helping to maintain the critical infrastructure that supports daily operations at the station. Working alongside a close-knit team of skilled tradespeople, you'll play an important role in keeping facilities operating safely and efficiently. With accommodation, meals, travel and living costs covered, this assignment offers an exceptional chance to build your savings while experiencing a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1000 residents in summer season)Rate: $55 per hour (WAGES, which means you'll also get annual leave, time and half (for public holidays) and lieu days)Deployment: October 2026 – Feb 2026 (ideally you will be flexible, and able to stay on longer if required)
Expected Skills and CompetenciesTrade-qualified Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technician (Level 4 or equivalent).Experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial or industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems.Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across refrigeration, electrical, and control systems.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manuals.Experience with preventative maintenance, inspections, and breakdown response.Sound knowledge of health, safety, and refrigerant handling requirements.Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Computer literacy and experience using maintenance management systems.Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship.
