About Commodity Cafe
Commodity Cafe, operated by Commcafe Pty Ltd, is a busy and well-established cafe located on St Kilda Road in Melbourne. We are committed to providing high-quality food and excellent customer service in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Due to the continued growth of our business and increasing customer demand, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals, managing day-today kitchen operations, supervising kitchen staff and maintaining food safety and quality standards. All meals are freshly prepared in our commercial kitchen, and the Chef must be capable of preparing dishes from scratch based on individual customer orders.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking meals using fresh ingredients and appropriate cooking techniques.
- Preparing dishes from scratch in accordance with customer orders and menu requirements.
- Managing daily kitchen operations to ensure timely and efficient service; Monitoring the quality of food during preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Developing and improving menu items in consultation with management; Managing food costs, portion sizes and kitchen expenses.
- Ordering food supplies and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
- Inspecting the quality of ingredients and ensuring appropriate stock rotation.
- Supervising, training and coordinating kitchen staff.
- Allocating duties and monitoring the performance of kitchen employees.
- Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements.
- Implementing appropriate food storage and preservation procedures.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and storage areas.
- Working closely with management to improve food quality, menu offerings and customer satisfaction.
- Operating effectively in a fast-paced commercial kitchen; and
- Complying with workplace health and safety requirements at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification, OR relevant trade qualification
- At least one year of commercial experience as a Chef after formal qualification, OR minimum three years of relevant commercial cooking experience if no formal qualification
- Experience preparing meals from scratch in a full-service kitchen
- Must be able to work under pressure with good time management skills
- Must be able to consistently deliver high quality food
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Good knowledge of food safety standards
- Ability to manage kitchen operations independently
