Employment type: Full-time, permanent

Mechanical Project Manager opportunity in Central London
Designer Group is hiring an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead the mechanical building services delivery on the prestigious West One redevelopment above Bond Street Underground Station.
This is a major commercial refurbishment and partial redevelopment project involving office and retail space, retained structures, new building services and ambitious sustainability targets.
We are looking for a Mechanical Project Manager with strong experience in commercial construction, office refurbishment, fit-out or complex MEP delivery. You will manage the mechanical package from pre-construction and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
The West One project
West One involves the refurbishment and partial redevelopment of an existing 1970s office and retail building in the heart of London’s West End.
The project will modernise the building’s workspaces, services, environmental performance and street-level appearance while retaining as much of the existing structure as possible.
Working above Bond Street Underground Station creates a complex and highly coordinated delivery environment, making this an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Project Manager with experience on major central London projects.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of all mechanical building services packages.
- Manage mechanical engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
- Deliver HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, pipework, drainage, public health and plantroom installations.
- Manage the mechanical construction programme and key project milestones.
- Coordinate new mechanical installations with existing and retained building services.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, BIM models and technical submissions.
- Manage RFIs, design changes, material approvals and procurement schedules.
- Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, controls, fire, structural and architectural packages.
- Monitor labour, materials, productivity and subcontractor performance.
- Identify technical, programme, commercial and construction risks.
- Work closely with the commercial team on variations, forecasting and cost control.
- Lead progress, coordination and subcontractor meetings.
- Manage testing, commissioning, system completion and client handover.
- Ensure O&M manuals, commissioning records and as-built information are completed.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Build strong relationships with the client, consultants and project stakeholders.
Essential experience
- Five or more years’ experience in mechanical project management.
- Experience working for an M&E contractor, mechanical contractor or major subcontractor.
- Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects through construction, commissioning and handover.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, pipework, public health, drainage and mechanical plant.
- Experience managing subcontractors, engineers, supervisors and site teams.
- Experience managing programmes, procurement, RFIs and technical submittals.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design coordination and installation sequencing.
- Commercial awareness and experience working with quantity surveyors.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Good knowledge of UK construction health and safety requirements.
- Right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
Desirable experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Commercial office refurbishment.
- High-end office or retail fit-out.
- Central London construction projects.
- Retained structures and existing buildings.
- CAT A or CAT B fit-out.
- Shell and core developments.
- Live or occupied building environments.
- Complex logistics or restricted-access sites.
- Projects located above or close to transport infrastructure.
- Plant replacement and live-services connections.
- Shutdown planning and temporary services.
- Sustainable or low-carbon building services.
- BREEAM-accredited projects.
- BIM and coordinated MEP delivery.
A mechanical trade background, building services engineering qualification or construction management qualification would also be beneficial.
