Financial Controller
Founded in 2001, Resident Advisor (RA) is one of the world's longest-running music media brands and a cornerstone of the dance, electronic and DJ ecosystem. The site's audience of over 7 million monthly users is drawn in by a combination of news, editorial, club listings and ticketing, RA-branded events at venues and festivals worldwide, original films and a weekly mix series that has run for 20 years.
Today, RA operates a complex global business spanning ticketing, media, events, agency services, and software. Hundreds of millions move through our platform each year across multiple markets, entities, currencies, and payment flows.
As we enter our next phase, the challenge is not simply growth. It is building the systems, infrastructure, and operational leverage that allow us to scale efficiently while continuing to serve the culture that made RA what it is.
Role Overview
The role is a key position within RA's Finance team, supporting the Head of Group Reporting & Control in maintaining accurate financial reporting and strong financial controls across the business. You will take ownership of the monthly close process, including preparation of management accounts, coordinate payroll and payment processes, and play a central role in tax compliance and cost control. Leading a small high-performing team, you will provide hands-on support and training while working closely with the Head of Group Reporting & Control to continuously improve processes and controls within the finance function.
Key Responsibilities

- Ensure accurate and timely reporting in line with group accounting policies.
- Support group consolidation across all entities, including feeding and reconciling the consolidation model.
- Drive the month-end close process across all entities.
- Own the general ledger and ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly, with reconciling items understood, aged and cleared.
- Own reconciliation of merchant/PSP settlement balances (across all payment providers) to the ledger, ensuring settlement funds in transit are correctly recorded as receivables rather than cash.
- Own intercompany reconciliation and elimination across all group entities.
Payroll & Payments
- Coordinate the payroll process with the Management Accountant.
- Responsible for payment run reviews and approvals.
Treasury Management
- Execute treasury operations to ensure adequate funds are available for promoter payments across the group's payment platform, within group treasury policy.
- Execute day-to-day foreign exchange conversion within the FX and treasury policy set by the Head of Group Reporting & Control, given the significant volume of foreign currency held by the business.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to support the group's payment obligations.
Debtor Management
- Own the management of debtors, recognising this as a material risk area for the business.
- Manage the Credit Controller, ensuring robust collections processes and timely resolution of overdue balances.
- Monitor debtor exposure and report on key risks and trends to the Head of Group Reporting & Control.
- Ensure debtors management is aligned with promoter balances across ledgers, with offsets accurately applied at the correct point.
Process & Controls
- Work closely with the Head of Group Reporting & Control in improving processes and controls within the finance team.
- Act with a high-degree of independence, while maintaining joint ownership of automation projects and process improvements.
- Own and actively develop ticketing settlement reconciliation and controls.
- Integrate appropriate cost controls into the business in line with annual budgets and forecasts.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the control environment as the business grows.
- Manage the spend management platform's control environment and act as key relationship holder with the provider.
External Audit
- Act as a point of contact on future external audits.
- Support the preparation of audit deliverables and supporting documentation.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting workpapers to a standard that withstands first-time review, across all group entities.
- Support the production of statutory accounts across the group's UK and overseas entities.
Tax Compliance
- Ownership of UK tax compliance (VAT, corporation tax, PAYE). Coordinate foreign tax compliance across the group's overseas entities with external advisers, under the oversight of the Head of Group Reporting & Control.
- Liaise with external tax advisors to manage compliance requirements and monitor changes in local tax legislation.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Directly manage the Management Accountant, Accounts Assistant, and Credit Controller.
- Provide hands-on support and on-the-job training to direct reports.
- Set clear objectives and foster a culture of accountability and professional development.
