Role Overview
As Employee Relations Lead, you'll take ownership of employee relations casework across the UK, providing practical, consistent and legally sound advice to managers and HR colleagues.
You'll independently manage a varied portfolio of Employee Relations matters, from day-to-day cases through to complex and sensitive situations, ensuring every case is handled fairly, consistently and in line with UK employment law and company policy.
This is a genuinely hands-on role where you'll own cases from initial advice through to resolution, including all associated administration and documentation, while acting as the trusted Employee Relations expert across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations Case Management
• Independently manage a portfolio of Employee Relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, conduct and other complex employee matters.
• Take full ownership of cases from initial advice through to resolution, including all associated administration, documentation and follow-up.
• Advise on flexible working requests, contractual changes and employee exits.
• Support managers and HR colleagues through formal processes including redundancy consultations and TUPE transfers.
• Develop Employee Relations strategies for complex organisational change programmes, including redundancy planning, cost calculations, consideration of alternatives, manager briefings and successful execution.
• Ensure all cases are managed fairly, proportionately and in line with UK employment legislation and company policies.
• Maintain accurate case records while identifying appropriate escalation points where required.
Advisory & Manager Coaching
• Provide practical Employee Relations guidance to line managers and HR Business Partners on employment law, company policy and best practice.
• Coach managers through difficult employee conversations and formal processes, helping them confidently manage complex people issues.
• Support managers in resolving Employee Relations matters at the earliest appropriate stage.
• Work closely with Legal where cases present increased legal, regulatory or reputational risk.
• Act as the trusted Employee Relations subject matter expert across the UK business.
Policy & Continuous Improvement
• Support the development and ongoing review of Employee Relations policies, guidance and manager toolkits.
• Support investigations, whistleblowing cases and Subject Access Requests (DSARs).
• Identify recurring Employee Relations trends and recommend improvements to policies, processes and manager capability.
• Help drive a consistent approach to Employee Relations across the organisation.
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Build strong working relationships with HR Business Partners, Legal, Compliance, Reward and wider Centres of Excellence.
• Partner with managers and business leaders to deliver practical, commercially balanced Employee Relations advice.
• Support organisational change and restructuring activity, including redundancy and TUPE programmes.
• Build trusted relationships across the business, becoming the first point of contact for Employee Relations expertise.
About You
You're an experienced Employee Relations professional who enjoys taking ownership of complex cases rather than simply advising from the sidelines.
You have the confidence to guide managers through challenging situations, balancing legal compliance with commercial pragmatism while ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.
You'll likely bring:
• Proven experience independently managing a broad range of Employee Relations cases from start to finish.
• Strong practical knowledge of UK Employment Law and HR policies.

• Strong coaching experience, helping managers confidently navigate Employee Relations matters.
• A resilient, organised and pragmatic approach.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience working collaboratively with HR, Legal and other business functions.
Ideal Background
You'll most likely be working in a hands-on Employee Relations role within a Professional Services, Consulting, Financial Services or large corporate environment, where you've independently managed complex Employee Relations cases while partnering closely with managers and HR teams.
