Electronics Engineer

Main Purpose of role:

The Senior Electronics Engineer is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of new and existing products that are in use across the global RI businesses operating in over 80 countries. The role also supports the business in new product roll outs to ensure a smooth transition from the Product Development phase and inlife sustaining.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • To work closely with stakeholder colleagues to support root cause identification and implementation of design modifications and improvements to existing hardware products.
  • Define and implement product improvements as necessary to address business requirements, concerns or performance shortfalls.
  • Work with procurement, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Validation, IT, Marketing Regulatory and Operations teams to project manage the identified improvements through to implementation.
  • Ensure that changes are documented and all technical files updated following product modifications and upgrades.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical relationships with suppliers where applicable
  • Lead change and Improvement projects from an electronics design and manufacturing perspective.
  • Understand and control the process of firmware and software changes.
  • Capture technical learning and test data in comprehensive written reports. Provide technical assessments on readiness for launch and risk mitigation plans, based on evaluation against pre-defined project success criteria and an understanding of commercial requirements.
  • Become a product champion for in market products.
  • Lead hardware change, improvement and optimisation projects as identified and agreed.
  • Maintenance and compilation of technical specifications and technical packs for each product and variants working with other teams as required.
  • Manage the product approval process for technical release of developed and modified products
  • Proactively manage product quality issues relating to designs to ensure resolution of issues through to Engineering Change Note Release
  • Work closely with the Validation team to ensure any product changes are confirmed in a way that all parties agree will achieve the desired results.
  • Work closely with other group functions such as Procurement, Supply Chain and marketing
  • Work outside of comfort zone to support the needs of the business

Technical Requirements

  • Able to manage and deliver a complex project portfolio whilst also identifying opportunities for further simplification, standardisation and cost optimisation.
  • Structured approach to executing development work, founded on definition and subsequent validation of technical models rather than simply an empirical learning approach. 
  • Good analytical problem solving skills with ability to generate and interpret technical data, provide conclusions and recommendations for follow up action accordingly.
  • Commercially astute with an understanding of product cost structures and knowledge of financial considerations required to assess commercial viability of new development initiatives.
  • Able to collaborate within multi-functional teams, working beyond direct sphere of influence to deliver results. Effective partnering with peers to deliver against common goals (both face to face and within ‘virtual’ teams).  Ability to communicate both verbally and in written format to different levels within an organization.
  • Ability to pro-actively lead product change process through implementation work systems and to help grow organizational capability accordingly.
  • Working knowledge and use of common IT applications including Microsoft Office, Project Management software and Good Suite.

  • Drive and ability to provide strong leadership and deliver effectively within a multi-national environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills capable of working effectively with suppliers, customers and operational functions around the globe.
  • Experienced in working within a matrix organisation.
  • A creative problem solver, capable of solving technical product related challenges
  • Strong commercial qualities with an established track record of excellent customer support; ideally able to leverage existing relationships with the key regional directors and country managers for Rentokil Initial.
  • Able to manage timelines and stakeholder expectations. Uses strong technical and problem solving skills to approach complex projects / provide timely solutions.

Relevant Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of an honours degree or relevant experience in an Electronics Engineering or similar discipline 
  • Experience of manufacturing processes and practices, including electronics assembly and test.
  • Knowledge of regulatory affairs at a regional or international level would be beneficial
  • A natural project leader with proven experience of leading projects within a matrix organisation.
  • A good communicator, calm under pressure and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Proven experience of working across borders, regions and culture; frequent travel may be necessary.
  • Altium Experience
  • Software language experience such as Javascript.
  • English essential. Further languages an advantage
  • Experience gained as an Electronics Engineer or Electronics Manager with technical expertise across the whole product life cycle in multi-component assembled devices and/or package development.
