Team Overview:
The Data Platform Management (DPM) team owns and operates EDC’s enterprise data platforms assuring they are secure, reliable, and ready to scale. We enable teams across Enterprise Data Operations & Technology and the business to access and use data with confidence, while continuously improving how our platforms are governed and run. This role intentionally blends data architecture thinking with hands‑on data platform administration, ensuring that platform solutions are both well‑architected and reliably operated.
Reporting to the Manager - Data Management Platforms, the Senior Data Platform Administrator plays a critical role in shaping the technical direction of EDC’s data ecosystem while also ensuring day‑to‑day operational excellence, security, performance, and cost optimization across cloud-based data platforms.
This role is ideal for a senior practitioner who is equally comfortable setting architectural direction, governing standards, and getting hands‑on to build, operate, and improve platforms at scale.
What you will be doing:
Data Platform Administration & Operations
· Design, build, configure, and operate cloud‑based data and analytics platforms supporting BI, advanced analytics, data engineering, and AI/ML workloads.
· Lead platform lifecycle management activities, including onboarding, upgrades, scaling, decommissioning, and continuous improvement.
· Develop and enforce platform usage, governance, and operational standards, balancing flexibility with control.
· Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance management to ensure platform reliability and resilience.
· Diagnose and resolve complex platform incidents, performance issues, and service disruptions.
· Collate and analyze tactical and operational information to diagnose underlying platform and service issues and define effective technical solutions.
Governance, Security & Compliance
· Ensure platforms comply with security, privacy, and data governance policies, remediating vulnerabilities within defined SLAs.
· Approve and contribute to database and platform specifications, ensuring data integrity and adherence to standards.
· Work closely with data governance and risk partners to ensure solutions meet regulatory, audit, and compliance expectations.
Strategic Enablement & Continuous Improvement
· Develop and maintain platform and technology roadmaps aligned to EDC’s data strategy and evolving business needs.
· Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and services through proof of technology to validate value, feasibility, and fit.
· Minimize technical debt by driving modernization and rationalization of legacy data platforms.
· Define and track platform performance, cost, reliability, and adoption metrics, contributing to service scorecards.
Data Architecture & Solution Design
· Define, maintain, and evolve data and analytics reference architectures, standards, design patterns, and guiding principles.
· Design end‑to‑end data solution architectures, including data flows, integrations, and platform services.
· Conduct targeted data exploration and analysis to identify architectural, operational, and performance trends supporting decision‑making.
· Partner with cloud, security, integration, and solution architects to ensure cohesive enterprise design outcomes.
Collaboration, Enablement & Leadership
· Advise, mentor, and coach data engineers, architects, and platform administrators on standards, best practices, and design approaches.
· Collaborate with product owners and delivery teams to plan, prioritize, and execute platform backlogs using Agile practices.
· Contribute to knowledge management by documenting architectures, operational runbooks, standards, and lessons learned.
· Provide technical leadership and clear communication to business and technology stakeholders.
What we are looking for:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
· 7+ years’ experience in senior or influencing roles across data architecture or platform administration.
· 5+ years’ experience designing and operating enterprise data and analytics platforms supporting BI, analytics, and data management capabilities (e.g., data integration, MDM, data catalog, AI).
· 3+ years’ experience administering Microsoft Purview.
· 3+ years’ experience using ServiceNow ITSM or similar service management tools.
· Experience with ITSM processes (Incident, Change, Problem, Service Request).
· Demonstrated experience with cloud/on prem data platforms and services (e.g., Purview, Profisee MDM).
· Hands‑on experience with DevOps / DataOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation.
· Experience working in Agile delivery models (Scrum, Kanban).
What will make you stand out:
· Experience with cloud/on prem data platforms and services (e.g. Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Denodo, Spark) or similar.
