Release Train Engineer

A bit about the role 

As a Release Train Engineer in the Digital Foundry team, you will work closely with the Product and Engineering teams and will be responsible for overseeing the Agile Release Trains, ensuring value delivery for large scale Agile programmes.  

This role will develop and maintain the Agile Release Train schedules for iterations and Program Increments and drive continuous improvement across multiple teams. With a focus on automated processes to streamline the release process and ensure predictability, reliability, and stability.  

This role will optimise value flow across the ART using Agile practices across end-to end teams and support the Digital Foundry to meet agile delivery at scale.  

What you’ll be doing 

• As part of PI Planning align multiple, cross dependant teams, on the overall objectives helping to synchronize team objectives and efforts for a consistent and predictable delivery across the ART 

• Monitor progress against PI objectives and provide visibility into ART performance and ensure alignment with business priorities 

• Drive continuous improvement at a program level and coach teams and stakeholders on agile practices to enhance quality, predictability and delivery speed 

• Identify, assess and mitigate risks and dependencies, escalating issues as necessary to ensure program objectives are met without disruption  

• Ensure priorities, objectives and deliverables are clearly understood and communicated across teams 

• Analyse performance encouraging feedback loops and data driven decision making to optimise flow and delivery efficiency 

• Strong ability to lead and influence cross-team alignment with internal and external teams 

• Clear communication across technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, including Director and Executive level 

• Work with internal teams and external vendors to improve automation of the SDLC, deployments and integration of software releases 

• Support the release management process, ensuring software is released using consistent and repeatable deployment methodologies 

• Release planning and coordination across the program, ensuring release readiness, working alongside Engineers, Test, Environment Managers and Release Managers  

What experience we’re looking for 

Agile and SAFe expertise: A deep understanding of Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, Lean principles, and Agile metrics 

• Leadership & Facilitation: Strong ability to lead cross-team alignment without direct authority, and conduct effective large-scale Agile events  

• Communication & Stakeholder Management: Clear communication across technical teams and Executives, managing expectations and transparency  

• Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Ability to identify impediments, improve flows, and guide teams in achieving objectives  

• Coaching & Mentoring: Develop capabilities among Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams to foster a continuous improvement culture  

• Experience of orchestrating large-scale Agile programs by coordinating multiple Agile teams to deliver software and solutions efficiently to market 

• Proven track record as a Scrum Master (3-5 Years) and as an RTE of at least 2 years working on large solution portfolio which encompasses internal & development as well as handling software platforms from other suppliers 

• Desirable Professional Certification: SAFe Release Train Engineer Certification or similar advanced Scrum Master Certification.
