Finance Manager

Our Future HealthLondon, United KingdomPosted 1h agohybrid
via Workable

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and hands-on Finance Manager to lead Our Future Health’s day-to-day financial operations. You will oversee accounts payable and receivable, lead the month-end close process and help ensure our financial records are accurate, compliant and available on time to support sound decision-making across the organisation.

Despite big improvements in healthcare in our lifetimes, today millions of people in the UK still live in poor health as they get older. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will manage a small finance team and work closely with colleagues across Our Future Health. You will combine strong technical accounting skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach, helping to safeguard cashflow, support effective financial controls and continually improve finance processes. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including invoice coding, customer invoices, payment runs and finance mailbox queries.
  • Lead the month-end close process, including preparing and reviewing journals, balance sheet reconciliations, income tracking and salary allocation journals.
  • Manage short-term cashflow forecasting and investment planning, ensuring funds are available for payment runs and returns on funds held are maximised.
  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns for review and support the Financial Controller with statutory, project and grant funding audits.
  • Manage, guide and develop two junior members of the finance team, supporting their growth and ensuring high-quality, timely delivery.
  • Develop and document efficient finance processes, and support finance inductions and training for colleagues across the organisation.
  • Provide cover for the Senior Finance Manager when required, including expense claim reviews and monthly payroll preparation.
  • Support the Finance Director, Financial Controller and wider Finance team with ad-hoc projects and cover as needed.

To succeed in this role, you will be a qualified accountant with relevant experience in a similar finance management role. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and able to balance attention to detail with a practical, collaborative approach.

We welcome applications from all who may not feel they match the full criteria, so if you have most of the below, we'd like to hear from you:

  • A recognised accounting qualification and relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience of line managing and developing team members.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including developing and maintaining financial models.
  • Strong communication skills and a solutions-focused mindset.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach and confidence working in an environment where activities and processes are continually evolving.
  • Knowledge of government and charitable funding mechanisms, and/or experience of working in a start-up environment, would be desirable.
  • From £45,000 per annum basic salary.
  • Generous Pension Scheme – We invest in your future with employer contributions of up to 12%.
  • 30 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays – Enjoy a generous holiday allowance with the flexibility to take bank holidays when it suits you.
  • Enhanced Parental Leave – Supporting you during life’s biggest moments.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme – Save 25-39% on a new bike and accessories through salary sacrifice.
  • Home & Tech Savings – Get up to 8% off on IKEA and Currys products, spreading the cost over 12 months through salary sacrifice.
  • £1,000 Employee Referral Bonus – Know someone amazing? Get rewarded for bringing them on board!
  • Wellbeing Support – Access to Mental Health First Aiders, plus 24/7 online GP services and an Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family.
  • A Great Place to Work – We have a lovely Central London office in Holborn, and offer flexible and remote working arrangements.
