This is a diverse and highly visible role that requires you to navigate a fast-moving and evolving environment. From managing complex stakeholder relationships and supporting advocacy initiatives to coordinating strategic priorities and responding to emerging issues, no two days will be the same. We're looking for an exceptional relationship builder who combines strategic thinking with sound judgement and a strong understanding of how to get things done in a complex environment.

You will be politically savvy, highly organised, and comfortable operating in situations where priorities can shift quickly and competing perspectives need to be balanced. You'll have a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life, build trust, and communicate with confidence and credibility.

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Experience in a senior advisory, strategic, political, or stakeholder-focused role
  • The ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity, and change with confidence
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality briefings, speeches, and correspondence
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with elected members, senior leaders, iwi, community groups, and external partners
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and sound judgement
  • A genuine commitment to serving communities and helping achieve positive outcomes for the Taupō District

Most importantly, you'll be someone who thrives on variety, enjoys working with people, and can successfully operate at the intersection of leadership, governance, politics, and community
