Senior AI Platform Engineer

UBDS Group delivers modern cloud, data and AI solutions across public and private sector organisations. We design and build scalable, secure and production-ready platforms that solve real-world problems and deliver measurable outcomes.

We’re looking for a Senior AI Platform Engineer who combines strong AI architecture knowledge with hands-on engineering capability. This is a senior technical role for someone who can design and build AI platforms and production AI solutions, work closely with delivery teams and contribute to the continued development of AI engineering capability within UBDS.

The Role

As a Senior AI Platform Engineer at UBDS, you will play a key role in the design and implementation of AI architectures and solutions across complex transformation programmes.

You’ll work closely with architects, engineers and client teams to take AI solutions from early-stage experimentation through to secure, scalable and operationally ready production environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement AI architectures and production AI solutions.
  • Help clients move AI solutions from experimentation into secure production delivery for large-scale user bases.
  • Contribute to platform standards covering governance, observability, security, orchestration and operational support.
  • Participate in technical discovery and client architecture discussions.
  • Work closely with delivery, account and capability teams to help shape AI solutions and opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers working across AI engineering delivery.
  • Develop reusable engineering patterns, accelerators and reference architectures.
  • Contribute to internal AI enablement and automation initiatives across UBDS.
  • Work collaboratively with architects and technical leads to ensure solutions align with wider cloud, data, security and enterprise architecture requirements.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Strong hands-on engineering background with experience delivering secure AI platforms, AI-enabled applications or machine learning solutions into production environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern AI architecture patterns and real-world operational delivery, including MLOps and Evals.
  • Strong Python engineering capability and experience working across cloud-native engineering environments.
  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into wider enterprise, cloud and data ecosystems.
  • Experience taking technical ownership of solutions or significant engineering workstreams.
  • Comfortable working directly with client stakeholders and explaining technical decisions clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring other engineers.
  • Experience with some of the following technologies or ecosystems:
    • Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker
    • Claude / Anthropic
    • Azure AI Foundry or Azure OpenAI
    • Databricks
    • Vector databases and RAG architectures
    • Agentic AI orchestration frameworks and MCP servers
    • Model and data lifecycle management

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within public sector or regulated environments.
  • Experience with secure government delivery environments.
  • Experience supporting bids, pre-sales or technical discovery activities.
  • Knowledge of responsible AI and AI governance frameworks.
  • Experience contributing to engineering standards, reusable patterns or technical communities of practice.

We do not expect candidates to have deep expertise across every technology listed above. We are looking for individuals with strong real-world production AI delivery experience, solid architectural understanding and the ability to adapt across evolving AI ecosystems.
