QA Automation Engineer (IDEA Ultimate QA)

In addition to Java, IntelliJ IDEA includes various development tools for other prominent languages such as Ruby, Groovy, Scala, Python, JavaScript, Objective-C, PHP, and Kotlin.</p> <p><strong>About the team</strong></p> <p>The IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate team is responsible for supporting a wide range of enterprise frameworks, data-access stacks, and application servers in IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate. This includes technologies such as Spring (including Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, and others), Jakarta EE, Quarkus, Micronaut, various reactive and data-access libraries, and popular application servers like Tomcat, WildFly, and Jetty. We ensure that developers can easily create, configure, run, debug, and observe their backend applications directly from the IDE. As part of the Ultimate QA group, you’ll work across different areas of the product – frameworks, HTTP client, persistence tooling, and application servers – and collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other QA teams to deliver a smooth end-to-end experience for JVM backend developers.</p> <p>We’re now looking for a QA Automation Engineer to join the IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate QA team and help ensure the quality of a product that our customers and software engineers around the world rely on daily. You’ll work alongside QA engineers to design and set up our automation process for end-to-end tests, as well as implement and automate test scenarios that catch issues before they reach our users.</p> <p><strong>What you’ll do</strong></p> <p>Core responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Design, develop, and maintain multi-platform and environmental (Linux, Windows, macOS, Docker, WSL) automated test scenarios.</li> <li>Expand test coverage for new and existing functionality.</li> <li>Debug and troubleshoot test failures.</li> <li>Improve existing automation based on team feedback and reduce test flakiness.</li> <li>Track quality metrics, including testing coverage, failure rate, and flakiness.</li> <li>Contribute to frameworks and tools with product-specific extensions as needed.</li> <li>Help the team monitor test execution results and investigate failures.</li> <li>Participate in release quality assessments.</li> <li>Collaborate with QA and developers to define test strategies.</li> <li>Do manual QA activities when needed.</li> <li>Participate in the test documentation creation.</li> <li>Improve domain-specific test infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines within your team’s scope.</li> <li>Share automation best practices with the team.</li> <li>Work with the tooling team to adopt new frameworks and practices.</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>What we’re looking for</strong></p> <p>Required skills:</p> <ul> <li>Proven experience in test automation.</li> <li>Solid programming skills in Kotlin/Java.</li> <li>Experience with test frameworks like JUnit or TestNG.</li> <li>Familiarity with build tools, like Maven and Gradle.</li> <li>An understanding of software testing principles and methodologies.</li> <li>Familiarity with CI/CD tools (TeamCity or similar).</li> <li>Experience with reporting tools (Allure or others).</li> <li>Version control experience (Git).</li> <li>Proficiency in spoken and written English.</li> <li>Responsibility, self-discipline, and self-learning skills.</li> <li>Strong teamwork skills.</li> <li>The ability to work independently, creatively, and on your own initiative.</li> </ul> <p>Nice to have:</p> <ul> <li>Experience testing developer tools, IDEs, and desktop applications.</li> <li>Familiarity with JVM Frameworks (Spring or Jakarta) and databases.</li> </ul> <p><strong><br>Why join JetBrains?&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Strong base salary.
