Technical Delivery Lead

Salary banding: £74,660 - £98,120

Beyond Sports is a Sports Tech company delivering a new way to experience sports. Our Emmy Award-winning platform powers real-time digital sports engagement for leagues, broadcasters, brands, and fans, from traditional media all the way to the Metaverse. As part of Sony’s sports technologies, we're here to shake up the industry through data and entertainment.

We're looking for a highly experienced technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with strong delivery and leadership capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our technology, influence engineering strategy, and remain hands-on with the development of products and platforms used by millions of sports fans around the world.

If you're passionate about solving complex technical challenges, leading talented engineering teams, and driving technical excellence at scale, we'd love to hear from you.

What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Technical Delivery Lead at Beyond Sports, you'll operate at the intersection of engineering leadership, technical strategy, and hands-on software development.

You'll work closely with Technical Directors, Architects, Engineering Managers, Project Managers, and Tech Leads to ensure our engineering teams are delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that align with both client needs and business objectives.

A significant part of your role will involve supporting multiple squads across a range of projects, helping teams navigate complex technical decisions, managing delivery risks, and ensuring we continue to evolve our engineering standards and ways of working.

Unlike many leadership positions, you'll remain deeply involved in technology. Around 60% of your time will be spent actively developing solutions, building Proof of Concepts, validating technical approaches, exploring new technologies, and solving the complex engineering challenges that help de-risk delivery.

You'll act as a key escalation point for technical issues, supporting teams when they encounter particularly difficult problems and helping drive pragmatic, scalable solutions.

You'll also play an important role in resource planning and team development, working alongside Engineering Managers to ensure squads have the right skills, capacity, and support to succeed. You'll help create opportunities for engineers to grow while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

As a senior technical leader, you'll contribute to governance discussions, support project planning and estimation, and help shape the technical direction of the wider organisation.

What We Value

At Beyond Sports, we value technical excellence, collaboration, and a willingness to continuously improve.

You'll thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy balancing strategic leadership with hands-on engineering

  • Take ownership of complex technical challenges and drive them through to delivery

  • Are passionate about helping teams grow and perform at their best

  • Enjoy influencing technical direction across multiple teams and stakeholders

  • Can confidently bridge the gap between business objectives and engineering execution

  • Are always looking for ways to improve processes, tooling, and ways of working

  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Enjoy working in fast-moving environments where innovation is encouraged

Skills and Experience

We're looking for someone with a strong engineering background and a proven track record of leading teams through the successful delivery of complex technology solutions.

Essential

  • Significant experience in software engineering, with expertise in backend, frontend, mobile, or full-stack development

  • Experience leading engineering teams and supporting multiple delivery squads

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices

  • Proven experience delivering large-scale, complex technology projects

  • Experience managing scope, dependencies, technical risk, estimation, and delivery planning

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across technical and business leadership teams

  • Hands on experience with AWS and modern cloud-based architectures

  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping develop technical capability within teams

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience working within sports technology, media, broadcasting, or digital entertainment

  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or technology integration programmes

  • Experience standardising engineering practices across multiple teams or business units

  • Exposure to client-facing technical leadership and pre-sales activities, including RFP support

  • Experience working on products or platforms serving large global audiences

Why Level Up Your Career at Beyond Sports

  • Help shape technology used by millions of sports fans around the world

  • Work with some of the biggest names in global sport, media, and entertainment

  • Join a Sony company at the forefront of sports technology innovation

  • Influence technical strategy while remaining hands-on with engineering

  • Work alongside talented engineers, architects, product leaders, and delivery specialists

  • Drive meaningful improvements across teams, platforms, and ways of working

  • Join a culture that values ownership, collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical leadership, strategic influence, and hands on engineering, we'd love to hear from you.
