Head of System Architecture
Life @ AP+:
We are one connected team in pursuit of one inspiring purpose – to unite people and technology to power better experiences. Each of us has a part to play in making that happen. You’ll be encouraged to bring your big ideas forward and make a difference through your work. Taking steps forward in your career whilst still having room for fun, friendships, and flexibility in your daily life.
We’re driven by our core values: lead with heart, learn for tomorrow and live our legacy. A purpose like ours takes the inspired impact of an incredible team. Ready to change the game? We’re ready to help you do it.
The Role:
As Head of Systems Architecture, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technology that underpins Australia’s payments ecosystem.
Leading a team of architects and domain specialists, you’ll set the architectural direction for critical payment platforms while remaining close to solution design and delivery. You’ll bring together deep technical expertise, strategic thinking and strong leadership to translate business priorities into secure, resilient and scalable technology outcomes.
This is an opportunity to influence the evolution of some of Australia’s most important payments infrastructure, working across NPP, eftpos and BPAY and partnering with senior leaders, engineering teams and strategic partners to ensure our platforms are ready for what comes next.
This role is responsible for:
- Lead and develop the Systems Architecture function, building a high-performing team of architects and domain specialists across AP+’s payment ecosystems, including NPP, eftpos and BPAY.
- Set the architectural direction for AP+’s payment platforms, developing target-state architectures, principles, standards and patterns aligned with business and technology strategy.
- Own end-to-end solution architecture across complex initiatives, providing technical leadership from early-stage concept and feasibility through design, delivery and production deployment.
- Shape secure, resilient and scalable technology solutions, balancing business outcomes with technical quality, operational resilience, performance and long-term maintainability.
- Partner across Engineering, Delivery, Infrastructure and Operations, resolving complex technical challenges and ensuring solutions are operationally ready and successfully delivered.
- Influence senior stakeholders and strategic partners, translating complex technology considerations into clear options and decisions that support AP+’s priorities and the future evolution of its payment platforms.
In order to be successful in this role, you'll need to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in Solution and Systems Architecture, with demonstrated technical and people leadership across large, complex technology environments.
- Proven experience designing and implementing Account-to-Account and Card scheme architectures, ideally within payments, banking or financial services.
- Deep architecture expertise combined with broad technical knowledge, spanning architecture principles and patterns through to applications, databases, networks, infrastructure and DevOps.
- Demonstrated experience designing large and complex systems, evaluating architecture options, dependencies, risks and trade-offs while balancing functional and non-functional requirements.
- Strong stakeholder leadership and influencing capability, with the ability to operate credibly from executive conversations through to detailed technical discussions and build alignment across internal teams, partners and suppliers.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline; architecture certification such as TOGAF or Zachman would be advantageous.
What happens next:
At AP+, we believe in the power of passion, pride, and purpose. Our team is driven by a shared mission to make a difference in the world of payments, and we're proud to work together towards this common goal.
If you’re ready to be a game changer, please submit your application. The Talent Acquisition team will endeavour to review your application and notify you of the outcome within the next two weeks.
