<p>This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building products from the ground up. You'll define the technical architecture, lead a small team of engineers, and partner closely with the Lending & Savings Business Lead to turn product vision into scalable, reliable systems.</p>
<p>You'll be expected to remain close to the code while providing technical leadership, making architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality software. You should have strong product instincts and enjoy working with cross-functional partners, but your primary responsibility is engineering excellence and execution.</p>
<p><strong>WHAT YOU WILL DO</strong></p>
<p><strong>Technical Leadership</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead the technical direction and architecture of the Lending & Savings platform.</li>
<li>Design and build scalable, secure, and highly available distributed systems.</li>
<li>Make key architectural decisions balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.</li>
<li>Remain hands-on, contributing production-quality code and reviewing critical changes.</li>
<li>Drive engineering best practices across system design, testing, deployment, observability, and operational excellence.</li>
<li>Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical coaching, and day-to-day leadership.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Engineering Delivery</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Own the delivery of technical initiatives from design through production.</li>
<li>Work closely with the Business Lead and designers to translate product requirements into technical solutions.</li>
<li>Break down complex initiatives into clear engineering milestones and execution plans.</li>
<li>Identify technical risks early and propose pragmatic solutions.</li>
<li>Ensure services remain resilient, performant, and secure as the platform scales.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Product Collaboration</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Partner closely with the Lending & Savings Business Lead to understand customer problems and product priorities.</li>
<li>Provide technical input into product planning, helping shape solutions that balance customer value, engineering complexity, and delivery timelines.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Product Design, Treasury, Trading, Risk, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to build customer-focused solutions.</li>
<li>Contribute to improving user journeys, performance, and platform reliability through continuous iteration.</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of engineers.</li>
<li>Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence.</li>

<li>Raise engineering standards across code quality, documentation, testing, and operational maturity.</li>

<p><strong>WHAT YOU WILL NEED</strong></p>
<p><strong>Technical Experience</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Strong experience building backend systems using <strong>Kotlin or Java</strong>.</li>
<li>Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems using <strong>Kafka</strong> or similar messaging technologies.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design.</li>
<li>Experience working with Redis or other NoSQL technologies.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications.</li>
<li>Experience with monitoring, observability, incident response, and production operations.</li>
<li>Strong debugging and performance optimisation skills.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience shipping reliable production systems that process financial transactions.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Leadership</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience leading engineering teams while remaining hands-on.</li>
<li>Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills.</li>
<li>Experience owning technical delivery from planning through production.</li>
<li>Comfortable working with cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into engineering solutions.</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.</li>
<li>A collaborative mindset with strong ownership and bias for execution.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Preferred</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience building fintech or crypto products.</li>
<li>Experience with lending, borrowing, savings, custody, payments, or other financial infrastructure.</li>
<li>Understanding of collateral management, interest calculations, liquidation engines, or financial risk systems.</li>
<li>Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar as part of your engineering workflow.</li>
