Junior Systems Integration Engineer
As a Junior Systems Integration Engineer at Bridges, you will work alongside experienced engineers to deliver high quality control and automation solutions, primarily within the water industry.
You will support the design, development, testing and commissioning of PLC, SCADA and associated control systems, while developing your technical capability through hands on project delivery, structured mentoring and formal training.
The role forms part of a structured two year Junior SI development pathway, designed to build competence, confidence and increasing engineering responsibility. Progression will be based on demonstrated technical competence, project experience and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
• Produce, review and maintain technical documentation including IO schedules, control philosophies and functional design specifications.
• Support PLC, HMI and SCADA software development, configuration and testing under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Participate in system builds, Factory Acceptance Tests, commissioning and site testing.
• Support control system hardware, instrumentation, communications and network integration activities.
• Maintain accurate project records, software versions and technical documentation in line with Bridges standards.
Learning and Development
• Follow a structured 24 month Junior SI development programme.
• Participate actively in mentoring, technical reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Complete relevant vendor and technical training, including platforms such as Schneider, Rockwell and Siemens.
• Develop competence in PLC, SCADA, industrial communications, instrumentation and control system architecture.
• Build professional communication, reporting and client facing skills through direct project involvement.
Team Contribution
• Work collaboratively with Systems Integration, Design, Manufacturing, commissioning and project delivery teams.
• Demonstrate a positive, curious and proactive approach to engineering and learning.
• Contribute ideas that improve technical quality, standardisation, safety and engineering efficiency.
• Support the development and reuse of proven software, standards and engineering methods.
Essential Skills
• A practical or academic foundation in electrical, electronic, control, automation or software engineering.
• Genuine interest in control, automation and systems integration.
• Ability to learn quickly and apply technical guidance.
• Good attention to detail and a logical, methodical approach to problem solving.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to undertake site work, testing and commissioning as part of project delivery.

Desirable Skills
• Familiarity with PLC or SCADA software such as Schneider EcoStruxure, Rockwell Studio 5000 or Siemens TIA Portal.
• Basic understanding of instrumentation, electrical control systems and automation architecture.
• Awareness of industrial networks, telemetry, OT systems or communications equipment.
• Previous work experience, placement, apprenticeship or project exposure within automation, controls or a related engineering discipline.
