About the role
We are looking for an Electronics Engineer with experience designing high-performance analogue and mixed-signal circuitry to join our highly collaborative team, supporting the development of our novel quantum networking hardware. The successful candidate will be working with teams spanning mechanical engineering, software and FPGA, optics, nanofabrication, and physics. There will be opportunities to work with cutting-edge technologies and to try out highly creative and innovative designs, working from initial concepts through to lab-based testing and deployment of prototype systems.
As a member of our growing electronics team, you’ll be responsible for coming up with circuit designs to meet challenging performance criteria, testing prototypes in the lab, and supporting their use within the wider company to enable fast and scalable quantum networking. You’ll be working closely with Engineers and Scientists from a wide range of disciplines to make sure complex electronic systems function as expected.
Responsibilities - What You'll be doing
- Liaising with team members from many technical disciplines, to refine requirements and specifications for electronics systems
- Carrying out design calculations and simulations, and selecting suitable components and equipment
- Producing high-quality electronic schematics, system designs and PCB layouts
- Organising the manufacture of prototypes
- Hands-on testing, debugging and improving of complex electronic and optical setups
- Analysis of experimental results and data
- Maintaining accurate design records and documentation
- Supporting the use of electronic systems throughout the company.
Your skills, qualifications and experience
Essential
- Degree-level qualification in electronics, physics or other closely-related subject
- Industry experience or PhD in analogue electronic design
- Experience with PCB design tools, including design for manufacture and reliability
- Experience with electronic and/or electromagnetic simulation tools
- Ability to perform hands-on testing and experimentation using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and similar equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and be a great team player, working with multidisciplinary teams to meet demanding specifications
Desirable (nice to have, but not required)
- Understanding of high-frequency and RF circuit design principles
- Ability to solder and rework high-density PCBs
- Experience integrating multiple sub-assemblies to form complete electronic systems
- Experience with some or all of the following software packages: Altium Designer, LTSpice, Keysight ADS
- Understanding of noise in electronic circuits
- Experience with FPGAs
