
AWS DevOps Engineer - Lead

We are seeking passionate and experienced Senior/Lead-level AWS DevOps specialists to join our engineering discipline. You will be empowered to apply your expertise in designing and implementing DevOps strategies to build national-scale cloud-hosted solutions that maximise performance, security, scalability, and adaptability. As a member of our engineering discipline, you will contribute to our ongoing commitment to applying modern DevOps best practices across both our engineering teams and client environments.

Position
A Senior or Lead Engineer (specialising in DevOps) oversees the planning, design, and implementation of robust DevOps strategies within their immediate project and across teams. This includes:
- Engaging with clients and colleagues to plan and deliver solutions that apply modern DevOps practices and principles.
- Designing and implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines to automate the deployment of software and infrastructure changes through client-owned test and live environments.
- Identifying and configuring automated tools to ensure the performance, security, and scalability of solutions.
- Providing subject matter expertise on DevOps practices and techniques to both internal and client teams.
- Proactively identifying and implementing improvements within projects, and where applicable, across the company.
- Influencing company-wide DevOps best practices, standards, tools, and artefacts, and leading efforts to drive adoption across the company.
- Being an active member of the Engineering discipline, promoting the professional development of others, building new capability, and sharing best practice.
- Supporting the ongoing growth of Informed’s Engineering capability by helping to recruit technical staff and contributing to InformedACADEMYTM
- Getting involved in events and industry forums, staying up to date with the latest technology, services, techniques and methods, and bringing the latest innovations into our work.
- Capability designing and implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines for deploying software through environments, up to and including Production.
- Hands-on experience applying zero-downtime deployment patterns in Production environments.
- Skilled in managing cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code technologies.
- Understanding of distributed systems and container orchestration.
- Experience with Git-based version control systems for managing solution source code.
- Proven capability using bash and shell scripting for task automation.
- Experience configuring Continuous Integration pipelines to run and report on the outcome of automated tests (both functional and non-functional).
- Expertise in maintaining and continuously improving the security posture of live systems (for example, using automated vulnerability detection and patching technologies).
- Experience overseeing the implementation of DevOps techniques across team members, mentoring others on best practice.
- Planning skills with the ability to develop and implement DevOps methodologies that align with business objectives and project timelines.
- Background in Agile delivery environments, delivering software solutions in controlled increments (e.g., following Scrum, Agile Delivery phases, GDS Service Manual, etc.).

Desirable skills and experience
- Experience working in a professional services/consultancy environment preferred.
- Experience applying DevOps tools and techniques with other major cloud providers (Azure, Google Cloud).
- Awareness of the GOV.UK Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice is preferred.
- Ability to deliver as part of multiple projects, concurrently across multiple teams.
- Ability to explain and simplify complex information to stakeholders.
