ZeroAvia is leading the transition to zero-emission aviation through the development of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems for civil and defence aerospace applications. As the world's only Design Organization Approved business focused exclusively on hydrogen-electric aviation, we have achieved significant flight test and regulatory milestones with the UK CAA and FAA and secured more than 3,000 pre-orders from airlines, OEMs and defence customers globally. Joining ZeroAvia means being part of a team pioneering the future of aviation and delivering lasting impact for the planet and its people.

As ZeroAvia advances towards certification and commercial deployment, the Fuel Cell Stack Engineer will play a critical role in maturing the core technology at the heart of our propulsion systems. Acting as the technical authority for the LTPEM fuel cell stack, you will help drive performance, durability and integration readiness while working closely with suppliers, testing teams and cross-functional engineering groups. This is a unique opportunity to combine deep fuel cell expertise with cutting-edge aerospace innovation and directly influence the development of the next generation of hydrogen-electric aircraft.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier management and development activities for LTPEM fuel cell stack programmes, ensuring timed delivery, quality, and compliance with programme requirements.
  • Act as the technical expert for LTPEM fuel cell stack, providing subject matter expertise and supporting design reviews for stack interfaces and balance-of-plant fluid systems.
  • Support the test team in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving fuel cell system performance issues during development and validation testing.
  • Own and maintain fuel cell stack equipment documentation, including technical requirements, interface definitions, compliance evidence, and supporting design documentation.

Key Requirements:

  • Deep technical expertise in PEM fuel cell stack technology, including electrochemistry, performance characteristics, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes.
  • Proven experience in integrating fuel cell stacks into complex, safety-critical systems, ideally within aerospace, transport, or electric propulsion applications.
  • Strong capability in fuel cell testing and data analysis, with experience assessing performance, diagnosing issues, and identifying health and durability trends.
  • Experience managing technical requirements, interfaces, and compliance documentation for aerospace or other highly regulated engineering products.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership across supplier management, system design reviews, and cross-functional problem solving to support fuel cell stack development and programme delivery.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience using engineering tools such as LabVIEW, Polarion, and DIAdem.
  • Expertise in ARP4754B requirements processes, including requirements capture, validation, decomposition and traceability.
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM or similar systems.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
