Generation Construction Safety Advisor - PL#34283
Peter Lucas is seeking an experienced Generation Construction Safety Advisor to provide safety oversight and support for construction and sustainment activities at various energy generation facilities across Saskatchewan.
This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional with strong industrial or construction experience who enjoys working in the field and supporting multiple projects and teams.
The successful candidate will work primarily at energy generation sites, with the specific location changing based on project requirements and construction activity. Rather than being assigned permanently to one facility, you will rotate between different generation sites throughout the province.
The general expectation is Monday to Friday, with approximately four out of five working days spent at energy generation sites. Some weekend work may be required depending on project schedules, site requirements, and contractor work hours.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
- Review contractor safety submissions, including personnel certifications, safe work plans, procedures, and related documentation.
- Review contractor safety profiles and personnel qualifications/certifications.
- Review proposed emergency response plans.
- Participate in site visits and pre-construction activities as required.
- Provide safety training and support to project and contractor personnel.
- Assist project teams in identifying and addressing safety requirements before construction activities begin.
Construction
- Provide hands-on safety oversight at various energy generation facilities.
- Rotate between sites based on project activity and construction requirements.
- Lead and facilitate site safety orientations.
- Conduct regular safety walks, audits, field-level observations, and inspections.
- Monitor contractor compliance with contractual, regulatory, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Identify unsafe conditions and work practices and intervene when necessary, including initiating work stoppages where required.
- Lead and support incident and safety investigations.
- Plan and coordinate emergency response and safety mock drills with project and contractor personnel.
- Work collaboratively with construction contractors, project teams, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and provide daily and weekly safety reports to the project team and relevant stakeholders.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safety expectations are understood and maintained throughout project execution.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recognized safety designation or certification such as CRSP, NCSO, CSO, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of safety experience in construction, industrial, utilities, power generation, mining, or a similar high-risk environment.
- Demonstrated experience providing field-based construction safety oversight.
- Experience working directly with contractors, construction crews, supervisors, and project teams.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, hazard identification, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, field observations, and workplace investigations.
- Experience reviewing safe work plans, emergency response plans, worker certifications, and contractor safety documentation.
- Experience leading site orientations, safety meetings, and toolbox talks.
- Experience coordinating or participating in emergency response exercises and mock drills.
- Experience with contractor safety management systems such as ISNetworld.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound safety decisions in the field.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with contractors, site personnel, and project teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout Saskatchewan to various energy generation sites.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work Monday to Friday with approximately four days per week spent at energy generation sites.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends or extended hours based on project and contractor requirements.
- Health And Dental Benefits.
- Company Pension Matching.
