
General Electrician
LOCATION: Belfast
SHIFT PATTERN: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
SALARY: Competitive
Purpose: To provide multi-site coverage, attending to breakdowns, completing EICR remedials, and engaging in planned preventative maintenance across client sites. The General Electrician will play a vital role in maintaining the electrical systems at our client sites. This diverse role encompasses tasks such as high bay internal light repairs, external lighting repairs, and addressing EICR code 1 & 2 issues. Successful candidates must meet response time requirements for priority tasks, utilise a PDA for task management, and take ownership of managing their workload efficiently
Key Responsibilities
Service Provision
Reactive Repairs & Electrical Breakdown Response
· Attend electrical breakdowns promptly and efficiently across multiple client sites.
· Meet required response times for priority tasks to minimise downtime and operational disruption.
· Use a PDA effectively for receiving jobs, updating progress, and completing reports.
· Diagnose and correct electrical faults quickly and accurately to restore systems to safe operation.
Installation, Testing & Certification
· Install wiring systems, containment, and electrical components as required across various sites.
· Carry out inspection, testing, and certification, including Minor Works Certificates and Installation Certificates.
· Complete EICR remedial works to ensure compliance with BS 7671 and maintain system integrity.
· Execute remedial actions identified in emergency lighting reports.
· Conduct routine inspections of emergency lighting and RCD systems throughout client facilities.
· Test and verify the functionality of RCDs, emergency lights, and exit signage.
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
· Complete scheduled PPM tasks on electrical assets, ensuring all work is documented accurately.
· Perform routine checks on distribution boards, small power systems, and lighting circuits. Identify emerging risks and escalate issues where required to maintain compliance and safety.
Lighting Systems Maintenance
· Perform repairs on general and external lighting systems, including high bay, low bay, task lighting, and external luminaires.
· Replace failed equipment such as lamps, batteries, ballasts, gear trays, LED modules, drivers, and fittings.
· Troubleshoot, lighting control issues, including sensors, timers, and switching arrangements.
Workload & Task Management
· Take responsibility for managing your workload efficiently across multiple sites.
· Ensure tasks are completed within agreed timelines and to a high professional standard.
· Plan work effectively to maximise productivity and minimise repeat visits.
Quality Management and Health and Safety
· Ensure and promote a safe working environment.
· Ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
· Report all incidents, accidents and near-misses in line with policy.
Other
· Willingness to attend training programmes as requested.
· Support the growth of the business, where possible, and by passing on potential sales leads,
· Support any customer initiatives which could lead to longer term benefits to both the customer and ABM.
· Any other ad-hoc duties as reasonably requested by a member of the ABM Management team.
Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria:
· City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Electrical Installation & City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Desired Experience:
· Proven experience as a General Electrician, with a track record of successfully addressing breakdowns, electrical installation tasks and remedial works.
· In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, regulations, and safety standards.
· Familiarity with using a Personal Digital Assistant for task management and reporting.
· Ability to meet response time requirements for priority tasks.
· Demonstrated ability to manage workload independently and efficiently.
· Experience working within a results-oriented environment.
· Time spent in a customer service environment.
· Full clean driving licence.
