The Studio

An exciting opportunity has arisen within an in-house artist studio for an experienced Creative Director to work closely with the artist, leading the creative development and execution of their artistic practice and wider creative ventures. Please note this role is 5 days on site (central london based offices)

The Opportunity

This is a highly multidisciplinary role spanning artwork, design, film, exhibitions, publications, products, events and visual identity.

Working closely with the artist and in-house graphic design team, you will develop ideas and translate an evolving artistic vision into fully realised creative projects, taking concepts from initial development through to final execution.

This is a senior, hands-on position suited to a creatively strong individual who can move seamlessly between big-picture thinking and the smallest details of execution. You will also play a key role in leading and managing creative and production teams across multiple projects.

A particularly important aspect of the role will be bringing structure, clarity and organisation to a highly intuitive and free-flowing creative environment. You will turn evolving ideas and conversations into clear creative direction, priorities and processes, creating the framework needed to move projects forward without compromising the spontaneity of the creative process.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Leadership & Vision

● Develop and shape ideas from initial concept through to final execution, combining strong creative judgement and visual thinking with exceptional attention to detail and high standards of quality.
● Lead a broad range of multidisciplinary projects across artwork, exhibitions, immersive experiences, film, publications, visual identities, events, merchandise, editions and products.
● Use strong drawing and sketching skills to communicate ideas, concepts and details clearly through visual development.
● Work confidently across both 2D and 3D, including graphic, spatial, physical and moving-image projects.
● Oversee the development of physical objects and products, including sculpture, furniture, jewellery, homewares, editions, prints and merchandise.
● Oversee visual communication across websites, digital, social media, marketing and other public-facing materials.
● Develop and maintain a coherent visual identity across the artist’s wider practice, while allowing individual projects to retain their own character.
● Support film and moving-image development through visual research, mood boards, storyboarding, visual experiments and other pre-production work where required.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Manage team responsibilities, workloads and performance, ensuring clear expectations, effective delegation and ongoing development.
• Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams of permanent staff and freelancers, providing creative direction, feedback and support within the studio.
• Act as the key creative link between the artist, creative team and production teams, translating ideas into clear briefs, direction and priorities.
• Coordinate and communicate with external designers, fabricators, manufacturers and other specialists, ensuring creative requirements are clearly understood and effectively realised.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring exceptional organisation and structure to a fast-moving, intuitive creative environment, with the ability to turn evolving ideas and conversations into clear briefs, priorities and workflows.

You will have strong project and people management experience, alongside a genuinely creative and hands-on approach. You will be proactive, adaptable and able to remain calm and solutions-focused under pressure.

Experience liaising with fabricators, manufacturers, printers and suppliers is important, as is creative experience across both 2D and 3D design.

An interest in, or experience working with, arts, culture or creative-led brands would be highly beneficial.

Bonus: Mandarin speaking would be highly advantageous.

Start date: ASAP, with mid-October the latest.
