Staff Accountant

In this entry-level role, you'll support the YMCA's financial operations by processing transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. You'll gain valuable hands-on experience while working alongside a collaborative team dedicated to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

What You'll Do
Financial Operations- Process daily accounting transactions, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure transactions are properly coded and documented.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Help prepare the annual operating budget and assist with updates to the organization's rolling 12-month financial forecast.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the integrity of accounting data.
- Follow YMCA financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Assist with preparing documentation and schedules for annual audits.
- Support accurate financial reporting and maintain organized accounting records.
- Partner with Finance team members and YMCA branch staff to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies.
- Provide excellent internal customer service while supporting the financial needs of multiple YMCA locations.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.

- Support the YMCA's mission by helping ensure the organization's financial resources are managed accurately and responsibly.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred (or currently working toward completion).
- Internship, coursework, or previous accounting experience is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office; experience with accounting software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and continuous learning.

Qualifications
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a detail-oriented, collaborative professional who is eager to build a career in accounting while supporting the YMCA's mission.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred; recent graduates with relevant internship or practical accounting experience are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software such as SAP, Intuit, or similar financial systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while performing accounting and administrative tasks.
- Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, reaching, and operating standard office equipment.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Visual ability to perform detailed computer work, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
