The Care Company is currently looking for compassionate, dependable, and self-driven Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to provide one-to-one care to clients in their homes and community settings throughout Toronto and the GTA, as well as the Central and Central East regions of Ontario Health atHome.
Current and upcoming opportunities may be available throughout Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Aurora, Bradford, Barrie, Alliston, Simcoe County, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and surrounding communities, depending on current client needs.
Our PSWs play an important role in helping clients maintain their safety, independence, dignity, and quality of life at home.
Scheduling & Availability
- Must be able to commit to a consistent, ongoing weekly schedule for the foreseeable future.
- We are looking for caregivers who are open to a variety of shift lengths, including shorter community visits as well as longer client assignments.
- Opportunities are available across day, evening, overnight, weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts, depending on client needs.
- Flexibility to support multiple clients within your preferred geographic area is an asset.
- Must be able and willing to travel to client homes within your agreed-upon service area.
- A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle are assets, particularly for caregivers supporting multiple clients or assignments in rural or remote communities.
- All TCC shifts require caregivers to remain awake and alert for the entire duration of the shift. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.
Duties & Responsibilities
As a Personal Support Worker with The Care Company, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing personal care and assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, hygiene, and feeding.
- Providing companionship, emotional support, and reassurance while promoting clients' independence and dignity.
- Assisting with mobility, positioning, transfers, ambulation, and prescribed exercises as outlined in the client's care plan.
- Preparing meals according to clients' dietary needs, preferences, and care plans.
- Assisting with light housekeeping and other tasks that help clients remain safely and comfortably at home.
- Safely using mobility and client-care equipment in accordance with training and established care plans.
- Observing clients for changes in their physical, cognitive, or emotional condition and promptly reporting concerns to the appropriate Care Coordinator or member of the clinical team.
- Following infection prevention and control practices and established health and safety protocols.
- Completing accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of the care provided.
- Working independently in community-based settings while collaborating with clients, families, nurses, Care Coordinators, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Providing care safely and competently within your training, demonstrated competency, and PSW scope of practice.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification from a recognized educational institution, or recognized international nursing or medical education that meets The Care Company's requirements for PSW employment.
- As part of our standard credential-verification process, The Care Company verifies applicable PSW educational credentials, including verification through the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), where applicable.
- Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) is an asset.
- Negative TB test completed within the past year.
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
- Valid WHMIS 2015 certification completed within the past year.
- Valid Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the past year.
- Required immunization documentation for measles, rubella, varicella, tetanus, and diphtheria. Hepatitis B immunization is strongly encouraged.
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation, subject to accommodation pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Good judgment and the ability to work safely and independently in clients' homes and community settings.
- Ability to identify and report client care concerns and changes in condition to the appropriate members of the care team.
- Ability to work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay: $23.50–$26.50 per hour, depending on the client/program and the PSW's HSCPOA registration status.
