Team Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Business Integrity Officer to support FinDev Canada’s responsible investment mandate. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable development in emerging markets and developing economies, at a time when FinDev Canada is experiencing sustained growth in its core investment activities.

Business Integrity at FinDev Canada is part of the ‘first line’ and encompasses a broad range of topics, including anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing, anti-fraud, sanctions risk management, corporate governance and associated reputational risks.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within cross-functional transaction deal teams, providing expert advice on business integrity risk to senior leaders, including the Board, and work directly with investees to improve their business integrity risk management and governance systems. They will also take a leadership role in evolving team approaches and strategies.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead complex pre-transaction due diligence, portfolio monitoring and external capacity building activities, and provide oversight and support to other team members.
  • Contribute to the development of strategically important initiatives, including team-level strategies, approaches and tools to build expertise, efficiency, and to improve business integrity outcomes.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management, internal teams and investees on business integrity risk mitigation strategies to enable responsible investment and protect FinDev Canada from adverse legal, financial, and/or reputational impacts.
  • Effectively and persuasively communicate analysis of risk and mitigation strategies to peers and decision-making committees, both verbally and in writing.
  • Actively contribute to promoting a risk aware culture at FinDev Canada by leading the development of internal capacity building and training sessions and developing cross-functional understanding.
  • Respond to complex business integrity issues or incidents in collaboration with relevant internal teams.
  • Lead the development and execution of action plans to mitigate risk and add value, including in collaboration with peers and other external partners, and other activities to drive market development around business integrity and/or corporate governance themes.
  • Manage the continuous improvement of team-level procedures, strengthening financial crime controls and promoting consistent implementation.
  • Provide practical thought leadership on international best practice related to business integrity and corporate governance.

What We Are Looking For

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g.: finance, international development, international relations, law, political science).
  • At least 10-15 years of experience identifying, assessing and managing financial crime, integrity and corporate governance risks, and engaging senior stakeholders in emerging markets to minimize and mitigate risk.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to operationalize anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing (AML/CFT), and anti-bribery and corruption regulatory requirements and international best practice.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to operationalize corporate governance best practices and key corporate governance standards, such as the OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance and MDB/DFI corporate governance methodologies.
  • Ability to lead portfolio management activities, including issues management, exercising sound judgement on complex risk issues, and building strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Experience developing risk management methodologies, tools, and proportionate solutions, and engaging partners to drive thought leadership.
  • Understanding of contextual, political and operational risks that may drive integrity risk in FinDev Canada’s countries of operation.
  • Understanding of FinDev Canada investment products, including corporate debt, project finance, direct equity, and intermediated equity.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, plus the ability to develop and effectively communicate practical recommendations.
  • Ability to support team planning and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presenting to senior management committees, producing clear written reports and ability to convey complex concepts simply.
  • Team player with experience collaborating effectively in multi-cultural environments and within multi-disciplinary teams.

What Will Make You Stand Out
