
Labourers (Civil Construction)

We are looking for motivated Civil Construction and General Construction Labourers who are ready to work hard, learn new skills or provide existing experience, and build a career in the construction industry. You don’t need years of experience—we’re looking for people with a great attitude, strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience, work alongside experienced operators and tradespeople, and develop skills that can open the door to future opportunities with Wilco.
This is a seasonal position working on projects throughout Edmonton and surrounding municipalities. Candidates must have reliable transportation to travel to various job sites.

Successful candidates will perform a variety of physical labour tasks on civil construction and open-space projects and will operate a variety of hand and power tools. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to work outdoors in changing conditions.
The position typically involves 10–12 hour days, Monday through Saturday, and includes some or all of the following:
Responsibilities
- Work in parks- trails- ravines- river valley- urban landscapes!
- Cart and spread topsoil and other materials.
- Lay sod or seed. Plant shrubs and trees.
- Perform other duties to assist with the construction of a landscape and related structures.
- Utilize concrete to form foundations/pads/. Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use.
- Build retaining walls, paving stone installation, underground utility installation and other types of civil work.
- Operation of small packers, shoveling, heaving lifting, etc.
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tools.
- Load and unload construction materials from trucks and move them to the worksite.
- Assist in the installation of drainage systems, retaining walls, and other features.
- Clean up work areas and remove debris. Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Perform general maintenance and repair work such as filling holes, repairing fences, and painting.
- Operate hand and power tools to complete construction tasks.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure adherence to company policies.
- Previous construction experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Minimum Class 5 drivers license is mandatory. Candidates must have their own vehicle (public transit is not available).
- Strong communication skills. The ability to understand verbal safety instructions in English is required for this role.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to follow them at all times.
- Bring a positive "Safety First Attitude" every day.
- Flagging Certified, or experience flagging and traffic control would be an asset.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance skills & knowledge related to job functions
- Physical stamina and ability to work in outdoor environments.
- Equipment and machinery experience an asset.
- CSTS 2020 is an employment requirement (May be provided)
- CSA approved steel toed boots & Mobile Smart Phone.
