What is the Opportunity?

The Intermediate Engineer will work on small and medium projects and assist in maintaining a high level of service for the Special Project Structural practice at Entuitive. This will entail working closely with the other service groups at Entuitive to ensure consistent, consolidated, and leading- edge service across the firm. This position will also offer the opportunity for both office and field experience working collaboratively with the project team from initial evaluation through design to construction completion. We would like to supplement our existing team with a self-motivated candidate, with leadership skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment.

What is Special Projects?

The Special Project groups at Entuitive focus on small to medium projects of varying degrees of complexity requiring skills that span many areas of structural engineering. Special project work often involves adding to or modifying existing buildings or working with design teams to provide structural design for unique bespoke requirements. The design work crosses all structural materials and often involves understanding and working with antiquated structural systems or working with limited information on the existing structural system. The special projects teams see projects through from client intent all the way through design and construction on-site. Special project engineers are masters at time management, working on multiple projects at a time and respond well to projects with tight timelines.

Types of projects will include structural condition assessments, new ground up structural design, remediation, renovation and retrofit of existing buildings, tenant improvements, seismic assessment and upgrade of buildings, load reviews, support of equipment and many more.

What will you do?

  • Attendance at client meetings from initial conception throughout the entire project
  • Development of internal project budgets and generation of fee proposals
  • Review of existing structures to identify as-built construction details
  • Create computer models to analyze new or existing structures
  • Complete detailed design of a structure and its components using related codes
  • Hand calculation for design of steel, concrete, timber, masonry and CFS elements
  • Work with out in house BIM team to develop CAD and Revit drawings for the project
  • Liase with other consultants and clients to deliver a successful project
  • Attendance at construction progress meetings to provide consultation and updates to the project team
  • Review of complete and in progress works on construction sites
  • Write reports based on observations, assessments, and key findings
  • Coordinate and review of submittals and shop drawings during construction phase
  • Mentor and train junior staff in technical aspects of structural design and practical aspects of project delivery
  • Develop relationships with consultants and clients for repeat work.
  • Work individually and as part of a team with senior engineers and staff.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff

What do you need to succeed?

  • A degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering preferred, coupled with 5+ years of industry-related experience
  • P.Eng. designation required. Active experience using stamp considered an advantage
  • Experience in structural design and/or construction engineering for existing buildings
  • Experience reviewing existing structural drawings focused on buildings
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to work with people at all levels including fellow consultants, contractors and clients
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and deliverables on an ongoing basis
  • Working knowledge of construction materials and products used in building construction, with a focus on concrete, steel, wood, and masonry
  • Working knowledge and ability to use various programs such as SAP, SAFE, Hilti Profis, Mass and Woodworks considered an asset
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
