Head of Facilities Management
Head of Facilities Management
At OQC, we aren’t just theorising about the future; we’re building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round – the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.
The Purpose
As Head of Facilities Management, you'll own the environments that enable OQC's people and technology to thrive. Leading our Facilities Management function across our headquarters and global commercial sites, you'll ensure our workplaces are safe, secure, reliable and ready to support OQC's continued international growth.
The Role
Sitting within Engineering Operations, you'll take ownership of facilities across OQC's headquarters in Reading and our commercial sites in London, Tokyo and New York, as well as supporting the setup and operation of future global locations. You'll lead everything from facilities strategy, safety and maintenance through to budgets, leases, suppliers and operational projects, building a scalable FM capability for a rapidly growing deep-tech business.
This remit excludes OQC's manufacturing site in Barcelona.
What You'll Be Working On
- Lead OQC's Facilities Management function, ensuring our sites are safe, secure, available and fit for purpose.
- Own facilities operations, maintenance, workplace standards, risk assessments and FM Health & Safety processes across our sites.
- Establish and manage FM budgets, supplier contracts and operational expenditure, ensuring strong commercial control and value.
- Own facilities projects from definition through delivery, managing scope, timelines, budgets and resources.
- Manage OQC's property leases and associated forecasts, providing senior leadership with clear visibility of upcoming renewals, extensions and terminations.
- Build strong relationships with landlords, agents, estates teams and suppliers while partnering internally with Supply Chain, Legal and Engineering Operations.
- Establish and continuously improve FM OKRs and KPIs, using performance data to strengthen service delivery as OQC's global footprint grows.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience managing a small to medium-sized Facilities Management function.
- Experience managing large operational contracts and holding suppliers accountable for performance and value.
- Strong ownership of operational and capital budgets.
- Experience conducting, maintaining and reviewing risk assessments and working closely with Health & Safety specialists.
- Experience managing operational OKRs and KPIs.
- Strong budget management, contract negotiation, vendor management and external stakeholder management skills.
- Confident leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence, organise and coach effectively.
- A relevant degree or equivalent industry experience, alongside relevant Facilities Management qualifications.
The 'Nice-to-Haves'
- Experience managing facilities across multiple or international sites.
- Experience developing and delivering significant capital and operational budgets.
- Experience developing OKRs and KPIs for a Facilities Management function.
- Experience leading larger FM teams across multiple locations.
- Experience contributing to new facility delivery projects before sites transition into operation.
- Strong project management capability.
- IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
Why Join OQC
You will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.
