The Role and Responsibilities
EnerMech are looking to recruit a Finance Controller to support our Europe region based in Aberdeen. The role will report to the Finance Director and will own the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and finance operations across the Europe geography, including statutory reporting obligations.
You will provide financial stewardship and challenge to the business, supporting the Finance Director and leadership team with clear insight, risk assessment and decision support.
You will be responsible for leading, coaching and development of the regional finance team; set objectives, manage performance, build capability and maintain succession and business-continuity plans for critical roles.
Responsibilities will include:
- Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end close for the Europe region, aligned with the Group timetable; coordinate business, Project Accounting and SSC teams (AP, O2C and R2R) to deliver complete and accurate results.
- Review monthly financial performance, including revenue, margin, operating costs, balance sheet and cash flow; investigate material variances and provide clear commentary and actions to management.
- Support the annual budget, strategic planning and periodic forecasting processes, challenging assumptions and ensuring alignment between operational plans and financial outcomes
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and journals in line with delegated authority; ensure aged, unsupported or unreconciled items are resolved promptly.
- Establish and maintain the reconciliation framework with Group Finance, including account risk assessment, ownership, frequency, methodology and escalation requirements.
- Monitor accounting classifications, cost coding, accruals, provisions, revenue recognition and other key accounting judgements to ensure compliance with Group policy and applicable standards.
- Lead preparation and coordination of statutory financial statements, external audits and regulatory filings for the geography, working with Group Finance and external advisers as required.
- Coordinate tax compliance and tax accounting requirements, including forecasting tax liabilities and supporting corporate, indirect, payroll and other local tax matters with specialist advisers and Group Tax.
- Manage the finance control environment, including control testing, remediation, policy compliance and delivery of training where required.
- Act as an escalation and approval point for core finance activities, including FX revaluation, non-PO invoices, credit notes, vendor reconciliations, account clearing and payments, in accordance with authority levels and segregation-of-duties requirements.
- Partner with Treasury and the business on cash management, customer collections, vendor payment planning, liquidity forecasting and working-capital improvement.
Experience Requirements
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g. CA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent).
- Substantial post-qualification experience in financial control, reporting or a comparable senior finance role, ideally within a multi-entity or international organisation.
- Demonstrated ownership of month-end close, balance sheet control, statutory reporting, audit and internal controls.
- Experience leading and developing a finance team and working effectively with shared-service or outsourced finance teams.
- Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, working capital, tax coordination and financial risk management.
- Strong ERP and financial reporting systems experience; experience supporting systems or finance-transformation initiatives is desirable.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capability; Power BI or comparable data-visualisation/reporting experience is desirable.
