Welder / Fabricator -Trucks
EmployMe is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, award-winning commercial vehicle service centre based in Gisborne, supporting the transport industry across the East Coast and Wairoa regions.
This busy workshop represents several leading heavy transport brands and is known for quality workmanship, long-term customer relationships, and a strong team culture. They are now seeking an experienced Truck Welder & Fabricator to join their skilled workshop team.
About the Role
This is an intermediate to senior-level position suited to someone who takes pride in precision, safety, and building things that last longer than the road beneath them. You’ll be responsible for a wide range of welding and fabrication work on heavy commercial vehicles and equipment, working both independently and as part of a collaborative workshop team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Welding and fabrication of truck bodies, chassis components, brackets, and custom builds
- Repair and modification work on heavy commercial vehicles and trailers
- Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings and specifications
- Ensuring all work meets safety, compliance, and quality standards
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safety-focused workspace
- Working closely with mechanics and technicians to support workshop flow
- Proven experience as a Truck Welder / Fabricator in a heavy vehicle or industrial environment
- Relevant trade qualification (preferred) or strong equivalent experience
- High standard of workmanship with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage your time effectively
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Physically fit and adaptable
- Class 2–5 NZ driver licences and endorsements (D, F) are an advantage but not essential
- Excellent remuneration package tailored to experience
- Indicative salary range: $38 -$40 per hour
- Full-time, permanent role with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week
- Regular overtime available, including rostered Saturday work (fortnightly)
