Technical Director / Team Leader – Water & Wastewater
Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure
Babbage is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Technical Director or Team Leader to strengthen our water and wastewater capability and help deliver a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects.
As a 100% New Zealand-owned, majority employee-owned multidisciplinary consultancy, we bring together specialists across civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, surveying, planning and building services to deliver practical solutions that create long-term value for communities.
The Opportunity
Whether you’re currently operating at Technical Director or Team Leader level, you’ll have the opportunity to influence major projects and help shape Babbage’s water and wastewater capability.
You’ll lead complex water and wastewater projects from inception through design and delivery, overseeing scope, programme, budget, risk and quality. You’ll work closely with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies while providing technical direction and mentoring engineers within our growing Infrastructure team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Deliver reticulation networks, pump stations, rising mains, storage systems, outfalls and associated structures
- Provide technical leadership, oversight and quality assurance
- Prepare project briefs, estimates, feasibility studies and contract documentation
- Manage projects through design and construction to agreed timeframes, budgets and quality standards
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and regulatory authorities
- Coordinate with internal specialists to deliver multidisciplinary solutions
- Coach and mentor engineers across the team
- Support strong health and safety practices throughout project delivery
What You’ll Bring
- A tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- At least 15 years of water infrastructure experience, preferably within New Zealand
- CPEng status, or nearing the application stage
- Significant water and wastewater design and project delivery experience
- Strong hydraulic design capability across reticulation, pump stations and rising mains
- Experience with water and wastewater treatment assets would be an advantage
- Confidence working with clients, contractors and regulatory authorities
- A practical, collaborative approach to leadership and problem-solving
Why Babbage
At Babbage, you’ll join a highly capable 3 Waters team working alongside specialists from across our multidisciplinary business. You’ll have the support to deliver complex projects while remaining hands-on, influencing technical decisions and developing future engineering talent. Our majority employee-owned model also provides the opportunity for the people contributing to our success to share in it.
