MŌ TĒNEI TŪRANGA MAHI - ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Community Health Promoter, you would work closely with communities experiencing inequitable health outcomes with a focus on young people and those that support them. We offer a community-led, collaborative approach to delivering sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing information. Our equity focused team of community health promoters are connectors across Aotearoa, implementing our vision of creating better access and equity in areas of high need, through community development. You would utilise existing networks within the community, or be able to create these relationships, particularly with Māori and Iwi, community, health and education agencies.
We’re looking for someone who doesn’t wait for opportunities, they create them. You’ll be proactive, self-motivated, and passionate about identifying community needs and turning them into meaningful health promotion action. This role is for a sole Community Health Promoter to be based at our Christchurch clinic, working across Te Waipounamu region. This permanent, full-time position reports to the Health Promotion Team Leader. The role involves travel throughout the South Island, with some national travel, and may occasionally require evening or weekend work.
We welcome and value applications from individuals with life experience relevant to the role, particularly those with an understanding of Te Ao Māori and working with Pasifika communities as well as professional skills and work experience.
To be considered for the role you will ideally have the below, however we want to hear from people who are connected in their community and willing to upskill in these areas:
- Previous experience or tertiary qualification in education, health promotion, health or community development.
- Resourceful, motivated and solutions focused
- Strong workshop facilitation skills are essential, with the confidence and adaptability to deliver engaging, inclusive education to diverse communities.
- Experience working with a diverse range of groups, particularly youth, Māori, Pasifika, LGBTQIA+ and disabled people.
- Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health issues, and relationships and sexuality education preferred.
- Strong communication and community engagement skills to collaborate with your community and other partners.
- Prepared to create and maintain successful working relationships with our priority stakeholders.
- Can demonstrate understanding of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and strategies to reduce disparities for Māori.
- A full, clean, current New Zealand drivers license (required).
- Own car for work purposes (required, reimbursement for usage available).
