Operations Manager - Mile End
Mile End / Adelaide - Permanent Full Time
Operations Manager - Mile End
- Join Australia's leading public transport provider
- Pivotal leadership opportunity
- Competitive salary and benefits package
Shape the Future of Adelaide’s Public Transport
Are you a senior operational leader ready to take the wheel of one of Australia’s most significant transit networks?
Torrens Transit, a major subsidiary of Transit Systems and the ASX listed Kelsian Group, is Adelaide’s primary public mobility provider. We move approximately three quarters of the city’s bus commuters, supported by a workforce of over 1,400 employees and a fleet of over 800 buses. Operating from six metropolitan depots—including Morphettville, Mile End, and St Agnes, we manage high frequency transit routes and the iconic Adelaide O-Bahn corridor.
The Opportunity:
In this role, you will lead and support drivers, administration and operational support staff, while working closely with the depot’s Workshop staff and wider Torrens Transit operations and leadership teams. You will ensure Mile End operates in alignment with Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) service delivery expectations, while driving the operational performance of the depot.
What You Will Do:
- Lead, support and develop drivers, administration and operational support staff, building a high performance, customer focussed and inclusive culture at the Mile End depot.
- Manage day to day depot operations to ensure service delivery requirements are met, including operational readiness, resource allocation, service status coordination and fleet availability.
- Monitor depot performance, contractual KPIs, fleet condition, defects, downtime and operational data, implementing corrective actions and improvement initiatives where required.
- Work closely with the Area Manager and other managers to support operational and financial performance, cost control, accurate reporting and effective use of staff, vehicles and equipment.
- Provide leadership to the depot team, including induction, probation, performance planning and appraisals, training, competency development and customer engagement and service.
- Champion Depot Safety: Foster an uncompromising culture of safety across the Mile End depot, enforcing strict safety standards, adherence to internal HSEQ policies and procedures and compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) standards.
What You Bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading operational teams in passenger transport, road transport, depot operations or a similarly complex service delivery environment.
- High level people, interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, coach and engage teams with diverse skills and backgrounds, while building effective relationships across the organisation, including with employees, other depots, management and key stakeholders.
- Strong computer skills and experience using information management systems, including fleet or operational management systems such as TIMS, to maintain records, monitor performance, analyse operational data and support accurate reporting, together with confidence using the Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant business systems.
- Sound operational planning, resource allocation, rostering, cost control and performance management capability, supported by strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills to identify practical improvements and implement effective solutions.
- Strong customer service focus and a commitment to delivering safe, reliable and high quality passenger transport services with a demonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining a strong safety culture.
Why Join Us?
This is a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on Adelaide's public transport infrastructure. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, and the chance to lead a depot’s workforce in a safety first environment.
