Residential Energy Retail Consultant

LCP Delta is looking for an experienced consultant to help clients understand how residential energy retail is changing across Europe. The role sits within our Residential Smart Energy team and will focus on the points where energy retail, customer propositions, electrification, flexibility and digital services meet. This is a chance to develop insight that helps energy companies make better strategic decisions, while supporting a key growth area for LCP Delta.

Our Residential Smart Energy Team

Our Residential Smart Energy team focus on the point where energy retail, flexibility, customer propositions, electrification and digital services meet. We support our clients to understand the outlook for residential flexibility, and how they can develop strategies and business models to capture value from it. We support energy retailers, OEMs and policymakers through research and consulting that answers practical strategic questions: how much value is there in residential flexibility, how can it be captured, and which propositions should be developed?

European energy retail is moving beyond commodity supply. Smart meters, apps, smarter tariffs, household electrification, optimisation and flexibility propositions are creating the foundations for a more helpful retail model, in which suppliers help customers understand, manage and optimise their energy use.

Our work in smart energy retail focusses on this evolution. A key focus is understanding:

  • What does the evolution of energy retail mean for suppliers, and what capabilities will they need to succeed?

  • What are the key ingredients to making a great energy insights app and what can we learn from the market leaders?

  • How is the tariff landscape evolving across Europe?

Our work combines market analysis with advice to help clients make clear commercial decisions and understand where the next opportunities lie.

This is a great opportunity to:

  • Develop, deliver and manage cutting-edge research and consulting projects on residential energy retail, retail strategy, smart propositions and customer-side flexibility
  • Work at the centre of a fast-changing part of the energy transition
  • Build a profile as a trusted expert on how residential energy markets are changing across Europe
  • Develop relationships with energy retailers, technology providers, investors and other market participants
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, shaping proposals and supporting client conversations

What will you be doing?

  • Managing and delivering research projects within our Residential Smart Energy research service and consulting projects, with a particular focus on energy retail
  • Leading research using qualitative and quantitative methods, including expert interviews, market analysis, desk research and data analysis
  • Producing clear, engaging outputs for clients, including reports, viewpoints, databases and presentations
  • Communicating insights to clients through meetings, presentations, email and webinars
  • Managing projects, budgets and client relationships
  • Building relationships with industry contacts and using those relationships to strengthen our market insight and business development activities
  • Identifying emerging trends and helping to translate them into client-relevant insight
  • Providing expert opinion on energy retail to clients and colleagues
  • Supporting business development, including lead generation, opportunity scoping and developing proposals
  • Supporting less-experienced analysts to develop their expertise and develop skills
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across the Residential Smart Energy team and related teams, including EVs, heat and flexibility

What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in energy retail strategy, either working directly within an energy retailer or advising energy retailers through consulting, research or a related role
  • Solid research skills, including experience with expert interviews, desk-based research, data analysis and synthesis
  • Experience of managing research or consultancy projects, including coordinating project teams and deadlines
  • Excellent client management and relationship-building skills, with an ability to understand client needs
  • Curiosity and a desire to listen and learn from industry contacts.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to turn complex information into clear and commercially useful insight
  • Great written and verbal communication skills, including ability to build a compelling narrative
  • Team player – collaborative, sets standards, builds relationships, provides feedback
  • The ability to manage a varied workload and multiple deadlines
  • Commercial acumen - the ability to think commercially about the needs of our clients
  • The ability to attend events and confidence to network
  • Alignment with our company values
