Portless is changing the face of global e-commerce. By decoupling brands from traditional, expensive domestic warehousing, we allow e-commerce companies to ship directly from manufacturing hubs to global consumers in as little as 3-5 days. We are growing fast, and we are looking for an elite, full-stack engineer to help us scale a world-class, globally distributed platform to power the future of cross-border logistics.

The Role

We are looking for a high-leverage, senior full-stack operator to own and scale major pillars of our global supply chain orchestration platform. In this role, you aren’t just taking tickets and writing code; you will own entire architectural modules from end-to-end.

You will build out our B2B merchant portal, optimize our core logistics engine, and design heavy-duty API integrations connecting Portless to major Order, Warehouse, and Transportation Management Systems (OMS/WMS/TMS). This is a role for a highly autonomous, deeply curious engineer who thrives in an asynchronous, remote environment and loves solving the messy, complex problems that happen when software meets the physical world.

The Tech Stack

We build on a modern, fully serverless, cloud-native, and event-driven architecture.

  • Backend & Infrastructure: Node.js, Express, TypeScript, Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Databases & Analytics: Cloud SQL / PostgreSQL, Firestore, ClickHouse, BigQuery.
  • Frontend: React, Vite.js, TypeScript.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the Solution: Take broad, high-level product requirements and turn them into production-ready features. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of your code—from schema design to slick, intuitive frontend experiences.
  • Build Resilient Core Infrastructure: Architect and develop critical modules that coordinate international shipping routes, customs data, and real-time package tracking. Because global supply chains never sleep, you will design these workflows to be highly fault-tolerant and resilient to external network errors.
  • Deep Integration Work: Build and maintain heavy-duty API integrations with enterprise OMS, WMS, and TMS platforms. You will implement robust retry strategies, idempotency keys, and dead-letter queues to handle the chaotic nature of physical-world data synchronization.
  • Drive Asynchronous Momentum: Work seamlessly across a globally distributed team (USA, Canada, EU, UK, China). You write clear documentation, communicate proactively in public channels, and don't need real-time meetings to make meaningful progress.
  • Maintain High Engineering Standards: Participate in rigorous asynchronous code reviews. Help us maintain elite DORA metrics by ensuring your code is modular, heavily tested, and highly observable so we can keep our Change Failure Rate low.

What We’re Looking For

  • The Self-Driving Engineer: 5+ years of professional full-stack experience (TypeScript / Node.js / React), ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment. You are entirely comfortable with ambiguity, know how to unblock yourself, take extreme pride in ownership, and demonstrate a clear mindset for owning the solution from conception to deployment.
  • AI Fluency: You are a power user of modern AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code) and treat them as an extension of your own capability. You leverage AI throughout the entire lifecycle—not just for coding, but for discovery, architectural setup, and complex solution design. You bring a 'product owner' mindset to your AI usage: you are detail-oriented, maintain a big-picture view, and know how to direct AI to solve business-critical problems, while always maintaining a sharp human eye to catch hallucinations or architectural drift.
  • Distributed Systems Mindset: Proven track record building cloud-native, event-driven architectures. You have deep experience designing fault-tolerant systems and know how to handle race conditions, eventual consistency, split-brain scenarios, and flaky third-party APIs.
  • Data & Storage Pragmatism: You understand when to use a relational database (PostgreSQL), when to leverage NoSQL/document stores (Firestore), and how to work alongside real-time analytical engines (ClickHouse) or deep data warehouses (BigQuery).
  • Deep Curiosity & Attention to Detail: You don't just paste together answers or accept "it works" on the surface. You go deep into the stack to understand why something breaks, obsess over edge cases, and think about how your code behaves at scale.
  • Distributed Native & Team Player: Proven experience working effectively in a globally distributed, asynchronous environment. You excel at written communication, keep projects moving across time zones, and naturally serve as a collaborative team player. You proactively assist others without being prompted, identifying opportunities to support the team’s success, and always prioritize shared wins over individual recognition.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Deep experience with the GCP / Firebase ecosystem (especially Firestore and Data Connect at scale).
  • Direct experience building systems in Logistics, Supply Chain, FinTech, or E-commerce verticals.
  • Previous experience integrating with enterprise e-commerce platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce) or global shipping/carrier APIs.

Why Portless?

  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity package.
  • Flexible, remote-first, and asynchronous-friendly work environment across multiple time zones.
  • The chance to solve massive, tangible global trade problems alongside a highly focused, elite engineering team.
