Type: Full-time ·

Location: London, UK · On-site

Compensation: £60,000–£80,000/year, in accordance with experience

Travel: Occasional international travel as we stand up collection sites in other locations

The Role

We're looking for a Human Data Collection Lead to run our human-subjects data collection from end to end: recruiting participants, facilitating sessions, and owning the quality and integrity of everything we record. You'll be the person who makes sure sessions run on schedule, protocols are followed to the letter, participants have a great experience, and the data reaching our research team is trustworthy.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role. You'll build the pipeline, run it, and scale it as collection volume grows. You'll define the process and own it, and partner closely with the Hardware Systems team who build and maintain the recording rigs and the research teams who use what you collect.

As the operation grows, you'll hire and lead a small team of Human Data Collection Associates who run sessions on individual rigs and report to you. You may also travel internationally to help set up and standardise collection at new sites.

Responsibilities

Recruitment & Scheduling

  • Build and manage the participant panel and recruitment pipeline; run screening and eligibility across a diverse pool

  • Structure repeat-session participation and drive retention so onboarding effort compounds into deeper data

  • Coordinate participant and staff calendars for high throughput while protecting quality

Session Facilitation

  • Onboard and brief participants and obtain informed consent

  • Run, and later oversee, in-person recording sessions

  • Ensure every session follows the experimental protocol and SOPs exactly, maintaining fidelity as procedures evolve

Data Quality & Integrity

  • Verify each session is complete, correctly logged, and meets quality standards before it reaches the research team

  • Own the data pipeline day to day: how recordings are captured, labelled, stored, and handed off

  • Identify and resolve issues quickly

  • Keep clear, versioned SOPs, consent materials, and training documentation

Data Governance, Ethics & Privacy

  • Own informed consent and participant data handling under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, including lawful basis and appropriate safeguards for special category data

  • Maintain the ethics record: prepare and manage REC submissions and amendments, and keep approvals current as protocols evolve

  • Maintain a clean provenance and chain-of-custody record for every dataset, so we always know how and under what terms each recording was collected

  • Support DPIAs, retention schedules, and data subject requests, and keep governance sound as data moves across teams and jurisdictions, including transfers to our US entity

Team & Sites

  • Onboard, train, and lead the Human Data Collection Associates who run sessions on individual rigs

  • Set the standards the rest of the team works to

  • Help stand up new collection sites internationally and make sure protocols, consent, and data handling are consistent across all of them

Requirements

Core (essential)

  • Direct experience running human-subjects research operations (e.g. neuroscience lab manager, clinical research coordinator, or similar)

  • Track record of running participant-facing sessions and keeping them organised, compliant, and on schedule

  • Strong working knowledge of informed consent, UK research ethics (university REC, HRA, or equivalent), and participant data protection under UK GDPR

  • Exceptional organisation and attention to detail; systematic, documents everything, lets nothing slip

  • Strong interpersonal skills; participants trust you and staff want to work with you

  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, early-stage environment where you define the process

  • Right to work in the UK, and willing and able to travel internationally on occasion

Valued

  • Experience with neurophysiological or behavioural data collection

  • Familiarity with research data management, provenance tracking, and QA workflows

  • Experience scaling a data-collection operation or managing a small team

  • Experience setting up or supporting research operations in more than one country

  • Familiarity with data governance across jurisdictions (e.g. UK GDPR and EU GDPR, HIPAA, international transfer mechanisms)

  • Prior startup experience

Why Join

  • Build and own a core function from the ground up: a genuine lead role with real autonomy

  • Your work directly determines the quality of the data behind everything we build

  • Work at the intersection of neuroscience, AI, and real-world data collection
