Every utility-scale renewable energy project begins long before construction starts. Its efficiency, reliability and long-term performance depend on engineering decisions made at the design stage.

At SUNOTEC, Electrical Design Engineers contribute to the development of the infrastructure behind large-scale renewable energy projects – from initial analysis and technical design to the development of grid-connected systems.

With more than 680 completed renewable energy projects, over 15 GW of installed capacity, 6 GWh of battery energy storage capacity and operations across more than 24 countries, SUNOTEC is building the infrastructure that supports global energy transition. More than 2,000 specialists across different countries work together to solve complex engineering challenges across solar power plants, battery storage systems and grid infrastructure.

To support the growth of our engineering team in Bulgaria, we are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer - Renewable Energy Systems who wants to contribute to projects with international scale and real impact.

Why this role matters:

As an Electrical Design Engineer - Renewable Energy Systems, you will be part of the team that transforms project concepts into technical solutions ready for implementation.

You will take ownership of the electrical design and optimization of photovoltaic power plants and battery storage installations (BESS) , with your engineering decisions directly influencing project efficiency, reliability and successful delivery.

You will collaborate closely with engineers from different disciplines, project managers, transmission and distribution system operators, as well as external partners, to deliver high-quality renewable energy infrastructure.

Work from anywhere in Bulgaria:

We believe great engineering is built through collaboration, not location. That's why we give our electrical design engineers the flexibility to choose how they work, while staying connected to international projects and teams.

  • Flexible working model – fully remote, hybrid or office-based (Sofia);
  • Work closely with engineers and project teams across Europe;
  • A culture of trust and accountability - we support flexible work arrangements while expecting ownership, reliability and commitment to team collaboration.

Where you’ll make an impact:

  • Design electrical systems for large-scale photovoltaic power plants, ensuring technical reliability and compliance with project requirements;
  • Analyze solar potential using satellite data, meteorological analysis and on-site measurements to support effective design decisions;
  • Prepare technical simulations and engineering analyses that support the selection of optimal system configurations;
  • Work with specialized software tools to design photovoltaic power plants and battery storage facilities;
  • Coordinate technical solutions with other engineering disciplines, including civil, geotechnical, structural engineering and HSE teams;
  • Support project teams in resolving technical challenges throughout different stages of project development and execution.

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related technical field;
  • Experience in electrical design and knowledge of photovoltaic systems;
  • Practical experience with AutoCAD and willingness to work with specialized engineering software (PVcase & PVsyst);
  • Good command of English; German language skills will be considered an advantage;
  • The ability to analyze technical information and make engineering decisions that support quality project outcomes;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with international engineering teams;
  • Professional design qualification will be considered an advantage.

Why you’ll enjoy working at SUNOTEC:

At SUNOTEC, you’ll work on projects with real scale and technical complexity, becoming part of an international engineering organization where specialists from different disciplines collaborate to build large-scale renewable energy assets across Europe and beyond.

This role will give you the opportunity to contribute to different stages of the lifecycle of renewable energy power plants, exchange knowledge with colleagues from various countries and deepen your expertise by working on complex engineering challenges.

What we offer:

  • A flexible working model based on your preferences and role requirements – fully remote, hybrid or office-based (Sofia);
  • Compensation aligned with your experience and contribution;
  • Additional health insurance, including dental care;
  • Multisport card;
  • 24 days of paid annual leave;
  • Modern office, team initiatives and an environment where engineering teams exchange knowledge and expertise;
  • Opportunity to deepen your engineering expertise by working on large-scale renewable energy projects and solving a variety of technical challenges.

If you would like to contribute to projects that shape Europe’s energy infrastructure, this might be the right place for you! Send us your CV and become part of the SUNOTEC team!

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. All applications will be treated confidentially, and personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
