We are integral to the running of the railway and play a crucial part at every stage of the customer journey – making sure we are delivering a better railway for all our customers, now and in the future.

What is the purpose of this job? 

This role is to project manage several workstreams, as part of the wider Traincrew Programme an industry programme to support best practice in traincrew resourcing. To help deliver improvements to how the industry manages and delivers traincrew resourcing. Focusing on the delivery of workstreams to help the industry achieve the long term driver strategy. To support the subject matter experts in ensuring the outputs of the project are delivered on time, on budget, and in line with industry requirements.

What can I expect to do in this job? 

·       Develop a plan to deliver the requirements of a traincrew workstreams, in line with industry requirements

·       Management of delivery to the plan in line with the identified project plan

·       Project monitoring and tracking of activity, risks and issues in line with RDG project governance

·       Identify key stakeholders for the project in line with the Traincrew Programme’s stakeholder and communications plan

·       Work with project stakeholders to ensure adequate development and adoption of project outputs through the Traincrew Forum and other engagement opportunities

·       Coordinating and attending working group and steering group sessions

·       Provide regular written and verbal reports back to the relevant governance and stakeholder groups to support Traincrew Board

This role is accountable for successfully project management of the Traincrew workstreams. The role aims to put the structures in place for the project to meet its objectives and crucially delivers the benefits it sets out to achieve. The role is in part accountable for the realisation of these benefits, in partnership with the programme lead and the recipients of the change.

·       Passenger Train Operator representative– leads for implementing and using tools created by project

·       Network Rail leads for implementing and using tools created by the project

·       3rd party industry suppliers

·       Other industry programme stakeholders

This is a cross industry role that should be able to work with senior leaders to front line staff.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?

We are looking for someone with a proven track record on the management of programmes/projects qualified with relevant system such as Prince2 or MSProject and ideally someone who has rail industry experience, but not essential.

Some of the sort of specific skills and knowledge we are looking for include:

·       Project delivery and governance: Able to plan, manage and control workstreams using appropriate project management methods, governance, reporting and assurance processes, ensuring delivery to agreed time, cost and quality expectations.

·       Stakeholder engagement and influencing: Builds trusted relationships across Traincrew Programme stakeholders, train operators, Network Rail and industry partners; communicates clearly and influences others to secure alignment, commitment and adoption of outputs.

·       Risk, issue and dependency management: Proactively identifies, tracks and escalates risks, issues and dependencies, putting practical mitigations in place to keep workstreams on track.

·       Change and benefits realisation: Understands how project outputs support wider programme outcomes and works with stakeholders to embed change, monitor benefits and support long-term improvement in traincrew resourcing.

·       Communication and reporting: Produces clear written and verbal updates for working groups, steering groups and governance forums, tailoring messages for senior leaders, operational colleagues and industry stakeholders.

·       Planning, organisation and attention to detail: Maintains robust plans, actions, records and project controls, ensuring activity is well organised, decisions are documented and deadlines are met.

·       Collaboration and partnership working: Works constructively across organisational boundaries, supporting subject matter experts and partners to develop practical outputs that meet industry needs.

·       Problem solving and continuous improvement: Applies sound judgement to resolve delivery challenges, learns from evidence and feedback, and identifies opportunities to improve ways of working.

·       Accountability and self-management: Takes ownership of agreed deliverables, works independently where needed, manages competing priorities and demonstrates resilience in a complex stakeholder environment.

·       Inclusive and values-led behaviour: Demonstrates RDG’s ASPIRE values through accountable, supportive, respectful and inclusive working with colleagues and industry partners.
