
Mobile Plant Operative
Help us make a difference as a Mobile Plant Operative at our facility in East Grinstead.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 07:00–17:00, plus Saturday 07:00–09:30
Hours: 50 per week
Annual Salary: £40,170
Hourly Rate: £15.45 per hour
A quick look at the role.
You will be responsible for operating mobile and fixed plant within our East Grinstead transfer station. You’ll play an important role in the safe and efficient movement and processing of waste materials across the site, ensuring equipment is operated correctly and all health, safety and environmental standards are maintained.
Your core responsibilities.
- Operate mobile plant machinery such as loading shovels, telehandlers, excavators and other site equipment to handle and process waste materials safely.
- Conduct daily checks and routine maintenance on mobile plant equipment to ensure it remains safe and in good working condition.
- Load, unload and transport waste materials across the site while following all safety and environmental procedures.
- Assist with maintaining site cleanliness and housekeeping standards, ensuring work areas remain safe and free from hazards.
- Follow operational procedures and permit conditions when handling different waste streams to prevent contamination and ensure compliance.
- Identify and report any machinery defects, malfunctions or potential safety risks to the relevant personnel.
- Support waste processing activities, including sorting, shredding, compacting and baling, as required.
- Work effectively with colleagues, supervisors and drivers to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the site.
Our essential requirements.
- Previous experience operating mobile plant machinery.
- Experience working within a waste, recycling, quarrying, construction or similar operational environment would be desirable.
- CPCS qualification is desirable.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements when operating heavy machinery.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow operational procedures.
- A proactive approach to maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site safety.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and site visitors.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and develop your skills across different types of mobile plant.
